Celebrating the Milestones (and my sticky note obsession!)

There’s just something about your baby’s birthday (any birthday, regardless of their age) that makes a mother very pensive.  We think about our labor (to this day, my mother, 72, tells me how horrific her labor was with me on every single birthday!)  We think about the past year.  We think about the little (or big!) person they are becoming and look forward thinking about their future ahead.

003My youngest, Everleigh, just turned two this month and I’ve been in such a state of…longing I guess is the best word to describe it.  I think about my pregnancy, the surprise c-section, and her babyhood.  How did she turn into this little darling so quickly?  It’s so true when people say that while the nights may be long, the years are short!

I desperately need to get her baby book started – yes started – and in that quest have kept some meticulous notes over the past 2 years.  And by meticulous notes I mean I am a sticky-note ninja and have my calendar covered in them!  I’ll write a note about when she started scooting (4 months, far too early!), when she said her first word, and when she didn’t just stand up and walk, but instead ran.  That’s my girl.

I-haz-a-gag-In reading old blog posts (did you know your blog is an amazing place for finding accurate dates within all the memories you share with readers, true story), I found this picture of Everleigh trying sweet potatoes for the first time.  I KNOW – what kid doesn’t like sweet potatoes?  It was hilarious at the time (still is!) and is definitely a keeper for remembering one of her firsts.

My sticky notes are my go-to.  They’re a life history for 2-years, stuck on pages of calendars tucked away in a closet for future penning into a baby book.  The notes will get there eventually.  Right now I’m busy watching Everleigh do her next “watch this mommy!” stunt, and wishing for time to stand still!

How do you celebrate the milestones and keep track?

  • Happy Birthday Everleigh!

I did a scrapbook for my Daughter’s baby book. It was a lot of work, but I cherish it (and I hope she does too some day). Now that the first year is done, I have started a year in review scrapbook for the whole family, so we can look back and enjoy all the photos (without having to pull out the external hard drive).

    • Uggghhhh…why are you so organized Beth?? That’s awesome! I’m jealous – those are going to be amazing family memories to look back on!

  • Oh, that’s so adorable. How great that you captured these moments. Ah, sweet potatoes. They were my son’s favorite but he won’t eat them now.

  • I have an Evernote file where I’ve been keeping all that stuff in anticipation of eventually doing a baby book. It’s only been 3 years!
