It’s no wonder we’re out of practice. Though I know sunscreen is important year-round, living in Saskatchewan where it’s dark by 5pm in the winter months, I really don’t start to think about sunscreen until May. At that point, we’re so busy with end-of-year school activities and sports that our experience with sunscreen usually involves a quick spray or slap on of lotion on our way out the door, and hoping for the best.
There are lots of great hacks and tips out there to help us remember to reapply sunscreen, and a very basic tip is to use a shotglass sized amount of sunscreen per person, give or take. But what if you’re heading out for an afternoon at a park and shot glasses in your purse make you look more stressed out than you really are? 😉
I’ve found a helpful quiz online that determines how much sunscreen you need based on factors like your skin tone, whether it’s for an adult or child, and the type of event. The quiz will calculate your answers and then give you a product suggestion and amount needed to ensure you’re properly covered, along with a reminder of exactly how much to reapply every 2 hours. Did you know that 58% of sunscreen users misuse sunscreen by failing to reapply every 2 hours? I’m among them.
This tool is also great for keeping you on top of your sunscreen supply. It’s the worst to grab sunscreen when heading out the door and then have to apply it sparingly for the whole family because the bottle wasn’t as full as you thought it would be. Yikes!
I encourage you to take a look through your summer sunscreen supply (mine is in a basket in my laundry room so we can easily grab it on our way out the door, I also keep one in my car’s console, in a bag).
