If you haven’t seen it on TV or online, here is the current video shared by Mark’s highlighting Canadian’s responses to the question, “What makes your dad so special?” and the answers, as expected, were exactly the same as what many of us would say. Yes, even those of us who have lost our dad’s.
Admittedly, Father’s Day has been difficult for me since losing my dad in August of 2014. This will be my second Father’s Day without a dad, but working through my emotions last year I realized I can turn Father’s Day into a beautiful thing. First, it gives me the opportunity to think about my dad, growing up with him, and the life lessons he taught me. It can be hard to see others celebrating the day with their dads who are still here, but I take comfort in knowing that he’s moved on from his pain and remind myself that he’d likely think my moping was silly. No point in being upset about something we can’t change. “It is what is is,” he would say. I miss him, but I will celebrate him.
Second, it gives me the opportunity to thank my husband for being an amazing, loving, patient, and the best father to our three kids. Some psychologists say we look for characteristics in our spouses from our opposite-sex parent, and I absolutely believe this to be true. My husband has many of the same personality attributes that my dad did, and I don’t think that was a fluke.
I think we’re all beyond the basic tie and socks for dad for father’s day, but if you still love the chance to dress him up – head to Mark’s where you can outfit dad no matter what type of dad he is! Don’t believe me? Check out my picks:

Of course, like us, dads don’t usually fit into just one category so these suggestions are just that. You can always incorporate your favorites from my picks, along with the hundreds and hundreds of other items waiting for you in store at Mark’s this next week before Father’s Day. Or, you can always pick up Mark’s Gift Cards to let him do some shopping on his own (though if your guy is like mine, he much prefers a little help with that task!)
Whatever you do on Father’s Day, use it as a time to reflect, give thanks and show appreciation for the fathers and father figures in your life. To help you do that, we’re giving you the opportunity to win a $100 Mark’s Gift Card! The contest will close before Father’s Day and the winner will be notified promptly, so you can always slip a note in a card that the gift is, truly, in the mail!
