Oh Hey There Spring Sleep Issues!

How did you all fare during the spring-forward time change last weekend? Every season when the time changes, those of us in Saskatchewan typically sit back and watch – smugly – as our friends across the country struggle (and then post about) the time change. You see, here in Saskatchewan we’re stubborn. We don’t change our clocks, ever. Our struggle is to try and figure out what time it is everywhere else in the country. In the spring, Alberta is the same time as us. In the winter, Manitoba is. Oh, and everything on TV changes time on us – my favorite shows are now on at 6pm instead of 7pm. The struggle is real.

HOWEVER, this past weekend many of us in Saskatchewan got a taste of our own bitter medicine for being so smug when many of our cell phone clocks decided to bump us to “Winnipeg time”, my husband included. He looked at his phone clock, determined he was almost late picking up our daughter from a sleepover, and texted her while he was outside the house waiting to pick her up only to discover he was an hour early and she was barely awake. Oops.

When the clocks change, everyone takes a little time to adjust their daytime and nighttime schedules, and for some of us it can take longer than others. Even the sun rising earlier, as much as I love it, can start to affect my sleep. I’m fortunate in that I fall asleep easily, but if I wake up a few hours before my usual time, I struggle to get back to sleep and often times don’t. It’s the worst, and sets me up for a cycle of a long, tired day, being tempted to go to bed too early and then waking up too early once again! Thankfully, there are products out there to help with our sleep, but many of us are concerned about their reliability, efficiency, and long-term usefulness.

Deep Sleep is a fresh, organic natural sleep-aid from A.Vogel that is clinically proven to improve sound sleep up to 25%. Because it’s a tincture and not a tablet, the medicinal ingredients (fresh organically grown Valerian root tincture and fresh organically grown Hop strobile tincture) enter the bloodstream within 20 minutes.

There are two main types of sleeping problems:
1. Not enough time spent asleep (sleep efficiency).
2. Not enough time spent in a deep sleep, resulting in feeling unrefreshed upon awakening.
In order to be refreshing, sleep must follow a steady cycle, taking you into a deep sleep (REM sleep) where you dream and back up to a lighter sleep several times during the night. When this doesn’t happen, you will wake feeling like you haven’t benefited from your time spent asleep.

Deep Sleep helps both main types of sleep disturbances:
• Falling asleep is easier.
• Sleep cycles are better, with more time being spent in deep sleep phases.

And, it’s important to note that this product is non-addictive and is suitable for long-term use.

I’ve tried Deep Sleep on the nights when I’m anxious or wired and know that staying asleep is going to be a challenge. Taking it with a bit of honey (the instructions are to take the tincture with a small amount of water) can help if the tincture taste bothers you (I don’t mind it, I’m familiar with tinctures and used to the taste). I think the product works well, though it’s not something that I need to use nightly even though I could. I’m bringing a bottle of A.Vogel Deep Sleep to my mom on my next visit as she struggles with sleep nightly; I’m hopeful this can help her too!

You can read more about Deep Sleep here, and purchase it directly from the company’s website or you can look for A.Vogel products near you by using the Store Locator link on the site.
