Purina Pet People

Growing up, I had a constant companion from the age of five up until I was eighteen-years-old and moved away from home. My parents adopted a fluffy cockapoo named Mitzy and my childhood photo albums have the two of us together through the years.

After she passed away, I wasn’t sure I could ever love another dog. We had a cat before we had children and after that, there was no family pet for nine years. Then there was Cali.

I researched her breed and debated for months (or a solid year, if I’m going to be honest) on whether not only a dog but a puppy dog was right for our family. I was so nervous having her home those first few weeks, but Cali the Labradoodle really did blend into our family seamlessly.

Now, two years later it’s as though she’s been a part of our family from day one. I tell people that it’s like having a fourth child in some ways, but in other ways it’s like having a constant companion for me when my kids are tucked into bed, or when my husband is traveling for work. Cali is always here with me, and I have to admit it feels pretty great knowing that. So, yes, perhaps I am among the #PetPeople now.

Who are #PetPeople? #PetPeople would do anything for their pets. They may refer to their pet as their furry child or they, like me, may have a secret bond with their pet that no one knows about, but no one will dare break. #PetPeople have a fierce love for their pet, and can probably go into a long conversation about their quirks when the other person simply said, “So you have a dog? What breed?” Hey, they asked.

To share and spread their love of pets, Purina has launched the Purina Pet People campaign. The campaign includes a video showcasing Purina employees and their pets, as well as a Twitter and Instagram contest, where they’re asking Canadians to share what it means to them to be #PetPeople. Check out the video above or here Purina’s We Are #PetPeople video.

By sharing photos on Instagram and Twitter tagging @purinacanada and #PetPeople, you can enter for a chance to have your photo included in a limited edition coffee table photo book being produced by Purina. All winners will receive a copy of the book! (Full rules and regulations can be found here)

How great would it be to have your pet counted among the others in this limited edition book? We all

know your pets SHOULD be famous, here’s your chance for the rest of the world to know that too.

  • I wouldn’t be able to cope without my Tracker girl. It’s sometimes true, I love my dog more than people. She sure knows how to bring me up when I am down. She knows when I am having a bad pain day or severe migraine. She will lick my forehead and temple. It does seem to make it feel better (depending on the severity). I’ve grown up with dogs since I was born. I could never see myself without one.

  • Pets are a part of the family. We always had cats when I was growing up, and my brothers and I are all cat-people, with six cats between us.

  • Pets are adopted family members, we have 5 budgies and a teacup chihuahua, can’t imagine a day without any of them. They get treats, baths… we make sure they have the things they need an indulge them now and then, just like we do the children.

  • We are definitely pet people! We’ve had pets of every kind and in the new year, we’ll be opening our own pet store! 🙂

  • So sweet. I love other people’s pet but I’m just not a pet person now that I’m grown up. I had many pets that I loved growing up though. Last night I met my brother-in-law’s puppy and he is such a sweet dog. He is only 10 weeks old and just the cutest little German Shepard ever.
