Mini Pops For Christmas

Mini Pops in the 80sI remember my first Mini Pops record. Yup, a record!  It was We’re The Mini Pops and I played that album over and over for years in my bedroom!

My favorites were Bette Davis Eyes and Video Killed The Radio Star, and to this day those are both songs (by the original artists, mind you!) that I turn up when I hear them on the radio.

Back then, it wasn’t so much about finding lyrics without bad language that our parents were concerned about, but rather about finding a relatable age-appropriate singer to listen to when Madonna and Michael Jackson were just getting big (side note, I had the best Like a Virgin album cover poster on my bedroom door in grade 2 and had no idea what it meant…)

I just received two Mini Pops albums (um, CD’s I should clarify) for my daughter and I am absolutely thrilled at her reaction and love of them!  I thought maybe – with the accessibility of iTunes and the fact that I listen to the same type of music she likes – that she wouldn’t be as interested as I was in the Mini Pops at that age.  I was happily wrong!

Nevaeh loves her CD’s, listens to them constantly, and told me they’re “just wonderful, mom!” I had to save that quote because it was so unlike her too say that, “Just wonderful!”

“Mini Pop Kids 11 topped the iTunes Kids Charts and the Wal-Mart sales charts, with certain weeks beating out A-list musicians such as One Direction and Lady Gaga,” said Samantha Kives, Business Development and Music Licensing at K-Tel. “The Mini Pops have struck a chord in kids of all ages, so now; being able to perform live for their fans in Canada was a natural progression for us. These kids have a true passion for what they do and it shines through their music and in their performances.”

Look for Mini Pop Kids 11 in stores now (featuring Roar as my daughter’s favorite and flooring me that Tegan and Sara’s Closer is on there too!) and just released November 24th, Mini Pop Kids 12 featuring Shake It Off and All About That Bass which are played over and over in our household!  Look for them at stores like Walmart this holiday season!
