A Cozy Holiday Giveaway From Kobo

There are two times during the year when I do the most reading, a past time I loved as a child that slowly (excuse the pun) went on the back shelf as my life got busy as a wife, mother, and entrepreneur.

In the summer months, while the kids are home from school and our days are more relaxed and carefree, I choose a book and enjoy reading it on the deck, iced tea in hand and sunflower seeds at my side.  In the winter, I like reading during the holidays – the snow falling outside and a warm fireplace nearby always seem to help amplify that cozy reading-time mood.

The inaugural Kobo Book Report revealed the  top eReading trends from 2014 and among them are some pretty interesting facts!  Canadians turned nearly 300 million virtual pages on Kobo devices over the holidays last year, with 16 million on Christmas Day alone! This doesn’t surprise me – if a Kobo eReader is given as a gift, of course the first thing you want to do is download a book and experience everything the Kobo has to offer, so naturally that would happen on Christmas Day. If you’re already a Kobo user, settling in with a blanket and a cup of coffee and getting immersed in a book is a perfect way to decompress from holiday stress.

One of the study’s revelations is the Top Completed Books of 2014. You see, just because a book is downloaded, it doesn’t mean it will get read from start to finish.  I know myself that I sometimes have two or three books on the go, and some get abandoned entirely if they don’t hold my interest!  I think this is a fascinating part of the report – a true look into which books are actual worthwhile reads because they get completed on user’s Kobo devices!

Now here’s a look at the most downloaded books of 2014, you’ll notice a lot of different titles here:

EBOOK MUST HAVES – 2014’s Bestsellers

1. Gone Girl – Gillian Flynn
2. The Fault in Our Stars – John Green
3. Insurgent – Veronica Roth
4. Allegiant – Veronica Roth
5. Divergent – Veronica Roth

I had to chuckle reading the list, I’ve had Allegiant on my Kobo, about halfway completed, for at least 6 months. Whoops.  Perhaps with the holiday season once again upon us, I can use Christmas Day as my time to finally finish that book and perhaps download another.  After seeing Gone Girl in theaters, I really want to devour the book next!
