I love technology. I love how every day it seems we’re discovering ways that technology is making our lives easier, whether it’s through the use of a shopping app to help us save money or through my new washing machine that has so many features and options on the motherboard, as I call it, that I’m gleefully trying them all out just to see what they do!
Recently, I was asked if I’d like to check out a Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat – one that I could adjust from my iPhone through an App. Needing a new thermostat (like everything in our new house, it needed a bit of an upgrade), this sounded like a great idea to me. At the very least, I thought, we were getting a new thermostat – if the app/wireless aspect didn’t work I could still use it hands-on like our current one. At most, I’d have a fabulous new piece of technology in my household. I’m happy to say that we’re winning on this one and I’m fully enjoying all the features of our new Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat.
My husband installed the thermostat in place of our old one in just a few minutes, and downloading the app took about a minute as well – it was really that quick! Then, I just had to ensure that the thermostat found my wireless router and we were good to go! The Sensi App itself is very easy to navigate and – being in Canada – I was also able to set it to Celcius with just a screen tap.
I’ve been using the Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat in our house for about a month now and in that month had the opportunity to use it both with our air conditioning system and then – sadly – with our furnace heat. Here are a few ways I used the Sensi in that time:
– In early September we had been out all day while the temperatures soared to 25 degrees. Knowing the house would be warm by the time we got home – after football – I used the Sensi App to turn on the air conditioning just 30 minutes before we got home. It was glorious!
– Last week, our preschooler got sick in the middle of the night. We had to pull all the sheets off our bed, including the douvet, and went back to bed with some light throw blankets from the closet. I used the Sensi App to turn up the heat from bed and soon we were toasty warm again.
– I discovered how easy it is to simply use the Sensi App to turn up the heat while watching TV at night, from the comfort of my couch. I know it’s laziness on my part but when Homeland is on, who wants to waste time getting up to do that?
Users also have the ability – like most digital thermostats – to create a schedule for weekdays and weekends, so that you’re not keeping the house extra warm when you’re away during the day or tucked under the blankets at night, for example. Since I work from home, I don’t use the scheduled settings and especially now since I can simply adjust the thermostat from bed after I’m tucked in!
In the above screenshot, as soon as I turn the temperature up to warm up the house, the entire screen will turn a lovely shade of red telling me that it’s working!

Everything you had said is so true !!! We had one In our old house and I fell in love with it. Being able to control the thermostat with your phone was very helpful. We had a new born at the time and on those hot nights it was so nice to control the air with our phone .

Your question is why would I love to own an Emerson Sensi Wi-Fi Thermostat and I ask you, why wouldn’t I lol! Technology is amazing and like you, I am amazed at how almost daily, it is bettering our lives! These features are amazing. I love my iPhone and this would be just one more reason why. How easy and convenient is this thermostat that I can adjust it from anywhere! My home also needs updates. My current thermostat is the old round style. I’ve begged my Husband to pick us one up for years. The programmable features would be good enough let alone adjusting the temp from anywhere! But unfortunately his modo is, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it (which means, he’s cheap lol) Never get up off the couch while watching Homeland again… priceless!

for the exact reasons you mentioned, in bed or defo when out. Do use a programmable but being SAHM not always in and out same time so it would be ice if you are off schedule.

What a great idea to control your temp while not at home
We live in a home that was built in the 70s. Pretty sure its still the orginal thermostat. lol. Would be nice for an upgrade.
I travel a lot, and it would be great to turn my heat up before I arrive back home. I’ve arrived back to an ice box many times. Lol
my bedroom is upstairs and the thermostat is on he main floor. there are some nights i get out of bed to crank the heat – wi/fi would let me stay cozy in bed
Oh my gosh, this would be awesome. We keep our house on the cooler side so having the option to warm up the house before we come home would be awesome. Even using it from another room is handy. For people like me who have mobility issues this is awesome.

An awesome thing to have. I already have a security system which is setup on my iPad and I can watch all my security cameras from home. This would be awesome to have hooked up to my ipad too and control.
This would be great, I like it cool at night and in the morning it’s pretty cold in the house, some days 14 degrees so I could time it for 30 min before getting up, or put on the AC before we get home instead of it running all day!
