Unmask Your Red Skin – April is Rosacea Awareness Month

riversolA chronic, inflammatory and embarrassing skin condition, rosacea, currently affects over two million Canadians. April is Rosacea Awareness Month, dedicated to shedding light on this condition, which has no known cure and where the underlying cause is yet unknown. Enter Riversol and beta-thujaplicin, an effective over-the-counter skin care product developed by a highly respected dermatologist, with the ability to help millions of rosacea-prone sufferers.

Riversol for redness uses a key natural ingredient called beta-thujaplicin; a potent antioxidant derived from the Western Red Cedar tree. After many years of searching for a skin care system to effectively calm the symptoms of rosacea, Vancouver dermatologist, Dr. Jason Rivers developed a skin care line specifically formulated to help this condition and sensitive skin in general. A powerful combination of beta-thujaplicin, Vitamin C and Vitamin E calms the skin, reduces the appearance of redness, and improves clarity and texture while deeply hydrating the skin – important factors in helping men and women with rosacea.

“One of the main concerns people with rosacea encounter is a lack of transparency in skin care ingredients. This makes it hard for them to decipher what may be irritating their skin,” said Dr. Rivers. “While there is yet no proven cure for rosacea, patients note how positively their skin has responded to Riversol products within three weeks. Even better, many have indicated that they are no longer self-conscious about their skin.”

Patients with rosacea prone skin suffer from low self-esteem and self-confidence – the natural healing components inRiversol unmasks their true beauty. While clinical studies have demonstrated the anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and healing properties of beta-thujaplicin, it’s not used in mass-market skin care lines due to the high cost of extraction and the difficulty to stabilize this molecule. Riversol has discovered a method to successfully incorporate beta-thujaplicin in its skin care line – the first product line in North America to do so. Available online at www.riversol.com and through select locations.

While I don’t suffer from rosacea myself, I know a few people close to me that do. One is a female who uses make-up to cover it and another is a male who doesn’t have that ability!

Jason_LabI wanted to share the above information about Rosacea Awareness Month but I had some questions for Dr. Rivers that I wanted to go over first. Below is our discussion:

Up until now, what has been the most effective treatment for Rosacea?
Rosacea is treated by a multifactorial approach. Medical therapy includes both topical and oral drugs that help reduce the inflammation of rosacea. I have created a three-part topical skin care regime that helps relieve the symptoms of rosacea, called Riversol for redness.

The Riversol skin care regimen is composed of a cleanser, a serum and a moisturizer. The cleanser purifies skin without stripping it of its essential oils and leaves skin with a great pH balance. Riversol’s serum helps repair skin by delivering potent antioxidants and vitamins directly into it , with naturally exfoliating and brightening effects. Riversol moisturizer offers skin a deep and lasting hydration at the tissue level, while drying matte to leave skin feeling clean and protected against moisture loss throughout the day. Laser treatment can be effective for residual redness.

Why didn’t they work?
Some treatments may not work because they fail to take into account the fact that the skin barrier function is compromised somewhat in people with rosacea – that is one of the reasons that people state they have “sensitive” skin.

However, the triple combination of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and beta-thujaplicin in Riversol products are a very powerful combination that help relieve the symptoms of rosacea and other sensitivities. Rosacea patients and those with sensitive skin who have used Riversol on their skin have been very satisfied with the results. Some patients have even experienced complete responses, meaning that their rosacea has completely cleared. A patient once expressed, “now, my skin does not embarrass me. My complexion has never been clearer and I can even go out without any makeup on at all!”

In your experience, how has Rosacea affected the self-esteem of your clients?
The effects on self-esteem are variable but certainly in many people it has been a very serious issue, to the point where some of my patients would not venture outdoors into public due to their skin condition.

How is Rosacea diagnosed?
Rosacea is diagnosed clinically. There are no lab tests to make the diagnosis. At times, the appearance may mimic other skin conditions and then tests do need to be done. In general, central facial redness associated with flushing after certain activities or food ingestion is noted. People may have acne-like bumps on the skin, dilated blood vessels on the cheeks and nose, and more rarely enlargement of the nose (rhinophyma). The eyes can even be affected at times.

Is it lifelong?
Yes but onset is usually in the 20s to 30s.

Are there any dietary changes that can be made to help with Rosacea?
Are there any dietary changes that can be made to help with Rosacea?
Depends on the person – there are known trigger factors such as: alcohol ingestion, spicy foods, hot foods and drinks, to name a few. Avoiding these can help reduce inflammation and swelling.

Noting the price of the product, how does it compare to others on the market?
Can you better explain the cost (this may be relevant for my more frugal readers)

The cost is comparable to other retail cosmetic brands yet Riversol products are noted in the “professional skin care category”.
Riversol CEO, Sandi Lesueur and I want to ensure that customers can afford to repurchase.

“We know customers will fall in love with the product and we wish to keep the price point affordable. We’ve been told we should be charging $200+ for our serums and creams but we’ve opted out and we’re pleased with the results,” states Lesueur.

Price point:
Serums – $140
Moisturizers – $80
Eye cream – $70
Cleansers – $40

We also have a trial pack that retails for $29.99. Many clients like to try before they buy when they suffer with sensitive skin and rosacea issues.

Are there plans for more products using beta-thujaplicin for Rosacea?
Yes. The newest Riversol products are ready to launch early June. We will be launching a new hydrating mask and an exfoliating peel, which will retail for $75 (mask) and $80 (peel). People with all skin types will benefit from these new products and can easily add them into their weekly skin care regime.

~ Exciting stuff from those suffering from rosacea from Dr. Rivers and his team!  If you aren’t affected by rosacea let Rosacea Awareness Month at the very least make you aware of those that do, and how their skin battles are much  more than simply a ‘rash’ for ‘looking flushed’.  Thank you to Dr. Rivers for sharing all this information!

  • There are not a lot of products out there to reduce the redness but this looks like something worth trying.

  • I have Rosacea and it really bothers me. I feel like people look at me like I’m a drunk cause my fave gets so red on the cheeks. My sister in law’s is even worse than mine. When hers reacts to the sun look out it looks like she burnt her face and it is so bumpy.
It’s not fun at all having Rosacea.
