Tiggly Shapes – A Definite Item You’ll Want for the Preschooler in Your Family

Tiggly App Shapes

Tiggly Shapes are rubberized toys (circle, square, triangle, star) that children between 18 months and 4 years old can use for learning and play with an iPad and three different Tiggly apps. The Shapes have a soft plastic cover and silicone touch points.

They are durable enough for toddler play—yet gentle enough for iPad screens. (Tiggly Shapes work with all generations of iPads.)

By Tara Richter…

Sometimes we so eagerly give a toy to a child, thinking it is going to be the best ever, only to discover they have absolutely no interest in it. I think the true testament to a great toy or game, is one that the child can entertained with for an extended period of time, or better yet, one that really engages their creativity and development.

My nearly two year old niece has been born into a world of smart phones and tablets, is no stranger to the touch/swipe gestures and can easily navigate an iPhone or iPad. It is no wonder that toy makers are also cluing into this notion of interactive play with young minds. The makers of Tiggly, a New York-based company, has developed toys and apps for this digital generation. Not only have they incoroporated the digital world but also the need for children to manipulate physical objects in order to develop spatial reasoning, motor skills, langugage and creativity – essential to early childhood development.

Their debut product Tiggly Shapes was released only just this year in October and was designed by educators specializing in early childhood edcuation. It was evident from the time I opened the box, revealing the item to my niece, that it was a winner. I could tell that every detail was carefully considered including the color, shape, design and texture of the product. The included shapes are durable for toddlers, but gentle enough for the iPad screen with their soft plastic cover and silicon touch points. My sister, who is a teacher, commented that she really loved the feel, and size of the shapes that make it so easy for small hands to grab and manipulate.

Tiggly ReviewWe sat in awe watching my niece completely captivated for about an hour by the Tiggly Shapes and iPad app. Her excitement and expression was priceless as she made the correct selection of shape and pressed it to the screen.

Squeals of delight, laughter and clapping continued over and over. I was genuinely amazed at the connections she started making in a short amount of time. She began to repeat out loud the words used on the app, and when selecting the wrong shape, even began to say “duzn work”, moving on to the next shape until a match was made. This toy is absolutely perfect for her developmental stage, teaching her color, shape, reasoning, and motor skills; all with the added fun of the app with it’s animals and sounds!

While I could go on and about how great this product is, you don’t have to take my word for it. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and these photos entirely capture my niece’s experience playing with Tiggly Shapes.

This is definitely an item you’ll want for the preshooler in your family. This is a product of true quality, which let’s face it, can be hard to find in toys these days. I know I am looking forward to sitting and playing Tiggly Shapes again with my niece. Watching her learn, through play and discovery, is really rewarding and a gift in of itself.

Tiggly Shapes is available for $29.95 and can be purchased on the Tiggly website, as well as Amazon.com, Apple, The Daily Grommet, GrandSt, or Nordstrom. It is also availble at Apple Retail stores here in Canada, and many independent retailers. Check the website to find a location near you!
