Tara Loves Weleda, The End.

weleda sea buckthorn creamy body wash

By blog contributor Tara…

I wondered what part of the ocean a sea-buckthorn was from as I popped open the bottle of my new Weleda Sea-Buckthorn Body Wash. To me, it smelled a lot like citrus and grapefruit, but perhaps a sea-buckthorn was some type of an under-water citrus berry? Completely puzzled, I did what any well-educated person would do – I asked Google. Ironically I came across Weleda in my search and landed on their “our ingredients” page. Turns out sea-buckthorn isn’t from the sea at all. It is actually shrub native to Europe and Asia with red-edible berries. In fact the pulp oil from the berries is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, carotenoids and Vitamin E. In plain language it’s great at protecting the skin from UV radiation and free-radical damage. The citrus scent was the addition of essential oils (not synthetic perfumes) that made it smell so vibrant and invigorating.

To my surprise there was a second package along with the body wash. Weleda’s Arnica Massage Oil with warming sensation. I stared down at the package for a few moments, my mind going blank thinking “Great. Just great. How does a single person do a product review of massage oil?” Attempting to rub the oil on myself for a relaxation massage would be the equivalent of trying to tickle my own armpits – useless.

Weleda Arnica Massage Oil_TarasPicI wanted the full-out experience of a massage to test out this product so I dialed up my amazingly talented and long-time massage therapist Amanda Salkeld and volun-told her that she’d be trying out this oil on my upcoming appointment.

In the end, we were both impressed with the oil. Amanda noted that it was very easy to work with, had a great ‘glide’ (massage therapy speak), and how just a little of the product went a long way. I loved the gentle and relaxing fragrance of lavender with the ever so slight warming sensation on my skin. Most notably I didn’t feel like a giant grease-ball afterwards either. The sunflower and olive oils easily absorb into the skin, leaving it oh-so-soft!

In a world of artificial colors, flavors, scents and textures, finding something that is authentic and natural is a definite treat and the reason I have fallen in love with the products from Weleda. Named after the Celtic goddess of wisdom and healing, Weleda prides itself on the use of natural ingredients that work with the body’s own healing tendencies. I was thoroughly impressed with the company as I browsed through their very informative and easy to navigate website and received a real education on everything they are about and stand-for – from their philosophy, use of natural ingredients, to their sustainable farming practices, and fair-trade partnerships.

I couldn’t say it better myself, than from the words right from Weleda’s website “Creating a sustainable planet and beauty for all – makes you feel all good inside doesn’t it?” It certainly does Weleda, it certainly does.
