AIR MILES – The One Time It’s OK to Double Dip

AIRMILES_TAG_PMSEYou all know what a big fan I am of rewards programs! It blows my mind when I’m at the check-out and the customer ahead of me doesn’t pull out their rewards card – their free rewards card that costs nothing to get or use – when making a purchase! It’s like the customer is saying, “No thank you, I don’t want anything free. At all. Ever.”

Even better than being a smart frugal shopper and using a rewards card is pairing it up with a rewards credit card and double-dipping on loyalty points! You can earn AIR MILES reward miles at thousands of retailers across the country already, but when you pay with an AIR MILES-affiliated credit card (BMO or American Express – take your pick!), you earn even more! I love it – you earn rewards fast by being smart and double-dipping, and before you know it you’ll be on that perfectly planned trip!

Want to hear some amazing stories about how people have used their miles? AIR MILES recently put a call out in the Tell Us Your Story Facebook contest! AIR MILES Collectors were encouraged to share their story on how AIR MILES helped them create memories. Now that the submission stage has passed, the finalists will be announced October 8th and from October 8th until October 31st you can vote daily to determine the winners! The Grand Prize winner will receive a trip for two to New York City with spending money too!

If you’re not already an AIR MILES card holder, what have you been waiting for? You can check out www.airmiles.ca to find Sponsors in your area and start earning reward miles at places you already shop, and on things you already purchase for you and your family! For our family, I earn my rewards regularly at places like The Children’s Place, Shell and Old Navy – to name a few!

Side note:  While writing this article and browsing the www.airmiles.ca site, I discovered that I could earn AIR MILES on appliances from brands including Maytag and guess what?  We just purchased a new Maytag fridge last month!  I simply went online with my AIR MILES Rewards number and entered in some details about my fridge and where it was purchased and voila – more AIR MILES reward miles are coming my way!  Hooray!

  • Well I dislike voting contest, the person who knows the most people wins. There is also lots of voting group on facebook. They trade votes. So for that reason I don’t enter and only vote when I can win something and then I will vote for the entry with the lowest vote.

    • I agree with you completely! I don’t find it fair at all. I dislike the voting ones and I think this should have been a random win contest . I love that you vote for people with the lowest votes, that’s so awesome!

  • Thanks for letting us know about the airmiles for appliances. We’ll be needing a new stove and dishwasher soon, so I’ll keep airmiles in mind. Also it’s great to know we might be able to collect airmiles after the purchase if we forget to use our card. Thanks.

  • I use my Air Miles card whenever I can. I don’t have enough points for a trip, but can get some free groceries, so that is good.

  • I use air miles when I can but with so few stores in the area and only one takes air miles – and that’s a 15 minute drive – so not worth it

  • I thought i was the only one that can’t believe people don’t use rewards cards or simply don’t care! Hello its free and it save you money!

  • I didn’t know you could collect airmiles if you forgot at the time, I will definitely have to remember this!

  • not a fan of voting contests either, I hate to impose on my family and friends who are not contesters like me. I do love air miles and all other free loyalty programs!! recently we used air miles to purchase our flights to FLorida for our cruise =)

  • I’m not a fan of voting contests but do love Air Miles. I just have to remember to use my Card when Shopping with the Sponsors.

  • I liked your post AIR MILES – The One Time It’s OK to Double Dip.
I have an air miles card but i don’t use it very often.
I don’t shop at many places that offer air miles.
I missed the Tell Us Your Story Facebook contest but good luck to everyone who entered.

  • I love Air Miles and I wish all the finalist the best of luck. I’m not a fan of voting contests, though, as most of the time the ones that deserve to win are over powered by cheaters!

  • We have air miles but have yet to actually use it or anything, might be time to seriously looking into this and make good use of our points

  • I never knew you could collect your air miles after you have purchased a product or service and thank you so much for this information

  • I agree with top commenter, I don’t care for contests that are won by voting. I do however use my air miles at Shell when I fill up but other than that I use my Optimum Card the most.

  • Honestly, I am an airmiles card holder. I have yet to receive a statement. I use airmiles at the LCBO and I believe Metro, the odd time I am there, maybe I should get a point balance on my own every now and then. They used to send a statement. But really, I had no clue about the other retailers. I have it scanned, I do my business. I don’t know. I guess I should ask for a balance, as I have had the card since I was about 14! However, I lost one and never reported it.

  • I love Air Miles! I use them for flights within Canada since they’re so expensive. I’ve used them for flights to Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg and St. John’s. Only have to pay tax on the flights.
