Despite the fact that they hurt like heck when I step on them, I’m a big fan of building blocks for my kids. I’ve lamented before about the fact that I didn’t have any as a kid so I live vicariously through them and their collections, and sometimes get lost building something with my kids for awhile myself (making up for lost time, I say!) This fall, Mega Bloks has tons of new products (anticipating the holidays I’m sure!) and we were sent a few ahead of the holiday rush! Mega Bloks sent each of my three kids something to build and play with, so I was a happy mom with busy, content kids when the box arrived.
When you hear Mega Bloks what comes to mind? If you’re like most people (including myself) my perception of Mega Bloks was – until now – that of big chunky blocks perfect for toddlers. So when our new Barbie set arrived, I was surprised to find smaller – more commonly used – Mega Bloks inside!
We received the Barbie Build ‘n Play Super Star Stage, a set with 290 pieces inside! Oh mamas, when I opened it and discovered that I quickly closed it and waited for dad to come home to build it! The set is targeted for children ages 5-10 but younger children in that age range likely will need help building. My son was a building maniac at age 5 but my daughter wouldn’t be able to (she’s almost 6). So, my husband built the entire set with our daughter Nevaeh beside him “helping”.
Skylanders Giants is popular in our household with both my son (9) and daughter (5) so having the opportunity to check out some new Skylanders Giants Mega Bloks was, of course, awesome as well.
Elijah built this Skylanders Giants Arkeyan Robot King project in no time at all – after years of building blocks and following the step by step instructions he’s a whiz at it.
Everleigh, the baby of the family at age 2, received Firetruck Finn which features the original Mega Bloks. Best for ages 1-5, this was a great little project for her to play with, and I’ve witnessed her 5 year old sister playing with this toy on occasion too. Of course, it integrates well into all the other Mega Bloks toys we have! Yes, we are definitely fans in this household.
