DK Canada giveaway

Over the summer, I tried to keep my 9 year old’s face in a book when it wasn’t in a screen.  Fortunately, my son likes reading but as he gets older his love of reading has been replaced by a love of gaming.  So, I’m continually suggesting new books and series to keep him reading.  I love series, when I can really absorb myself in the characters and stories over a longer period of time.  We had some success with one series but beyond that, my boy is a Sheldon.

My sister, his aunt, has coined this affectionate nickname for him based on the character from The Big Bang Theory.  Full of information and scientific facts, I see little bits of Sheldon in my son and giggle with my sister about it.  Given the opportunity to check out some books from DK Canada’s Back to School Boutique he was like a kid in a candy…er…book store!  For  a limited time, all books in the Back to School Boutique are 30% off with free shipping on orders over $50!

Ideas That Changed The World

Ideas that Changed The World takes some of the most important ideas in history and displays them using stunning photography and detailed information. This VOYA Nonfiction Honor List and IRA Young Adult Choice 2011 winner brings the stories of great ideas to life in their historical context, sharing how they were inspired and then implemented. Readers will be in awe as they learn about satellites, antibiotics, microscopes, film animation, surfboards, submarines, TV, and more. Ideas That Changed the World takes the stories of the most insightful advancements in history and shows how these innovations affect us all.

Big Idea Science Book
Created in partnership with Prentice Hall, The Big Idea Science Book is a comprehensive guide to key topics in science falling into four major strands (Living Things, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Physics), with a unique difference — a website component with 200 specially created digital assets that provide the opportunity for hands-on, interactive learning.

Dinosaurs: A Visual Encyclopedia
This latest edition in a range of super successful DK encyclopedias for children features hundreds of photographs and computer generated images bringing extinct animals back to life in this visual celebration of early life on Earth. Authoritative yet accessible, the book includes fact boxes, timelines, maps, and diagrams that explore the beginnings of life on Earth, investigates early eras and life forms, and examines the world of the dinosaurs…their homes, food, young, and family lives. With content that is completely up to date and includes the latest discoveries and interpretations of prehistoric life, this is a comprehensive exploration of dinosaurs during their 180 million plus years of existence.

Since receiving the books, his nose has been in them which this mom is happy about.  Even this very morning before school he was reading Dinosaurs: A Visual Encyclopedia.  Yes, this means I’ll be told random facts from these books for weeks to come, but I suppose my little Sheldon got his aptitude for reading from me in the first place 😉  Bazinga.
