Bobs & Lolo (closed)

When listening to the opening song on Bobs & Lolo’s debut release, Sea Notes, I was caught off guard. Being a children’s cd, I admit I expected some dorky noises or silly musical melody. The acoustic guitar intro on Ocean Blue was anything but. In fact, it sounds like music by some of the artists I listen to when the kids are not influencing my cd choices. Ocean Blue captures you instantly with this opening lyric:

My favourite thing that I can do
Is swim around in the ocean blue
Me and all my ocean friends
Would like to come and invite you to the
Ocean blue, waving at you

The entire Sea Notes cd is a lesson in underwater adventure, where listeners are introduced to Sea Lions, a hungry Mr.Shark, Sea Turtles, Belugas and Cindy Seahorse among others.

Robin Hardy (Bobs) and Lorraine Pond (Lolo) grew up on Vancouver Island, and have a love of the natural world (even Mr.Shark!) and working with children. The website details their academic backgrounds, which we all know means nothing to children in the end. The real question is, can they sing? And if they can sing, are they interesting enough to keep a 4 year old’s attention on them? The answer in this household is, yes! The result that I didn’t expect was that I would be the one humming one of their tunes in the shower.

I didn’t review the second album, Musical Adventures, but had the opportunity to check out their newest release (their third already, go Bobs and Lolo!) Action Packed. The title describes the content well! This cd covers everything from making friends, to using your muscles, to why it’s important to clean up (“Playtime” is the song stuck in my head during my shower this morning).

Now it’s time to clean-up
Put everything away
So all the toys are ready for another day to play
Keep it up a few more things to go
And I’ll be off on more adventures tomorrow

Bobs and Lolo offer parents and children the chance to hear their music before you buy, by checking out the Music & Lyrics section on the site. If you live in Canada and Treehouse TV is a staple in your house, you might be familiar with Bobs & Lolo already! Their first musical cd, On Your Feet, was released in December 2007 and Treehouse TV started airing videos from this release in rotation in February 2008!

If you live in Western Canada, you have the opportunity to see Bobs & Lolo live this summer! In May, they will be at the Okanagan Children’s Festival and Surrey Children’s Festival.

In June, Saskatchewan readers (my home province, easy to draw, hard to spell, as the saying goes!) will have the opportunity to see Bobs & Lolo at the Saskatchewan International Children’s Festival June 3-7 in Saskatoon! I know several friends who attend this festival and we are making plans to go for the first time this year. If you go and see Bobs & Lolo, tell them you read about them here on Feisty Frugal and Fabulous!

To celebrate all the exciting new adventures Bobs & Lolo are about to have (seeing their faces on Treehouse has got to be pretty cool), and their upcoming travels and tour, Bobs & Lolo would like to give readers the opportunity to win their cd’s!

I will pick 3 winners and each winner will win 1 of the Bobs & Lolo cd’s. Bobs and Lolo will also add in some extra treats for the kids including stickers and an autographed picture! To enter, just go to Bobs & Lolo and check out their fun and informative website. Comment here telling me which cd you would like to win if you are chosen.
