In your travels through mommy blogs, are you seeing more than one item on Etsy or other sites that make you think to yourself, “I wish I could make that?” In my case, it comes down to, “I wish I could sew!”
YouCanMakeThis.com was created by a stay at home mom who wanted to create a central place where other women could learn how to make items for themselves and families. There are of course tons of sites out there with patterns, information, etc., but it can be overwhelming to someone just learning how to create their own items. A central place like YouCanMakeThis.com also helps those who are already skilled designers, by providing a place where everything can be found with ease and all in the same format.
The designs are displayed via ebooks with detailed step by step instructions and photos (I find when trying to figure out how to make things, a photo says much more than some instructions can).
The website is well organized, with designs listed in categories with the newest ones being featured in a “What’s New” category. Crocheted kid’s hats? They’ve got it. Beautiful baby blankets? They’ve got it. Diaper Bags? They’ve got it!
The site features photos submitted by customers who have purchased the products and created their own amazing pieces for their families. The I Made This! section is great for inspiration when deciding what exactly you want to make, or where on earth to start when you’re full of ideas and plans.
As you know, I have no craft skills whatsoever. I have my mom’s old sewing machine in my basement and one of these days I need her to show me how to actually use it. When I was asked to review this site and bring a great giveaway to my readers, I agreed to but without much enthusiasm since I thought it wasn’t something that really could spark my interest. I was wrong!
After seeing all the items on the site that I can download patterns and instructions for, I am actually eager to learn how to sew. I’d love to be able to create just a few items from this site. I can see, just a glimpse now, the sense of satisfaction and pride people who make their own products must feel.
