Belli Skincare (closed)

Mommies and mommies to be, I bet you can all remember those first few months of your first pregnancy when you realized that having this wee little life inside you meant you were the first line of defense for every danger out there threatening the your precious baby. Remember the panic creeping up in your throat the first time you read that foods like feta cheese or deli meats were potentially dangerous? I thought I had it all figured out once I screened out the ‘risky’ foods (which was all open to choice, really, on how far you wanted to go) until I talked to a friend who asked me what kind of body wash and lotion I was using? Huh?

Yes, it turns out even the lotion and body washes we mamas use when pregnant can contain potentially harmful chemicals that could affect a fetus. Who knew?! What’s a woman to do, we certainly need to still use lotions and body washes (lotions are especially crucial when pregnant…moisturized skin is the first defence against stretchmarks and that awful itchy belly feeling!)

Belli the only skin care line in the world that is teratology screened and it doesn’t stop there. The Belli Motherhood line is LactMed screened to avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects during breastfeeding. Belli Baby is screened for xenoestrogens—chemicals which can act like hormones that interfere with normal development of the reproductive system.

The first thing I thought of when reading about Belli Skincare’s screening process was, “Wow, who knew that these were things I should worry about?” and the second, sobering, thought was, “Wait….if Belli Skincare is testing for these things, why aren’t the other baby product companies doing it too?” Scary.

I was able to review all 3 product lines from Belli Skincare – the Pregnancy Line (no I’m not preggers!), Motherhood Line and Baby Line.

From the Belli Pregnancy line, my favorite product was definitely the Elasticity Belly Oil which happens to be the signature product of Belli and a customer favorite. Lotions just didn’t cut it when I was pregnant and I can’t wait to use this oil in a future pregnancy (maaaaybe, the jury is still out!). I used it on my non-preggy skin and it felt fantastic – a little really goes a long way (I even used it on my dry spots on my arms).

The Belli Motherhood line is wonderful! This is a product line that can be used at anytime, not just in the post partum period. My daughter was born almost 16 months ago and I am loving these products!

My absolute favorite item from the Belli Motherhood Line is the Body Firming Serum! I have been using it daily after my shower in preparation for summer (swimsuits, ack!) and love the way it feels.

Again, with this serum a little goes a long way and the first time I used it I poured way too much onto my hand. The serum features shittake mushroom extract for elasticity (have you heard the buzz about shittake mushroom extract?) and rice proteins. These ingredients sound a lot better than complicated chemical names (and a lot friendlier too).

Other great items from the Motherhood Line include Belli Eye Brightening Cream (tell me one new mom who could not use this product!) This is another item that can be used by any mom, I have been testing it out….too many late nights on the computer and early mornings can lead to bags under my eyes, yuck! The product goes on easily and actually feels good – it feels like my eyes have a little more pep to them after I use the cream.

The third product line we tested in our household was the Belli Baby Line of course!

We tried out the Calm Me Hair and Body Wash, Nourish Me Enriched Body Lotion, Pamper Me Talc-Free Baby Powder, and Protect Me Diaper Rash Cream.

My favorite product from thsi line was the Calm Me Hair and Body Wash. Featuring the essential oil of marigold and chamomile, the body wash is lightly scented and tear free.

All products in the Belli Baby line are allergy tested and free of artificial dyes, fragrances, phthalates, and other xenoestrogens (ingredients which can act like hormones and interfere with normal development of the reproductive system).

Belli has some big news! On Wednesday March 18th Belli Skincare will be featured on The Doctors! I watch The Doctors often and especially love when Dr. Lisa Masterson tackles womens health questions. Being that Belli Skincare products are proven safe during pregnancy (and beyond), this is a great product to feature on the show! Make sure to check your local listings and catch The Doctors on Wednesday!
