Reconnect This Summer With Mattel Games

OK parents, we’ve hit the halfway point of summer holidays! When you work from home, summer holidays can be the best of times and the worst of times. I’ve been an at-home-mom for 15 years now and summers can definitely test the patience of us all because there are so many days to fill! I rely on some great allies like screen-time (I’m a screen-parent, so I’d be a hypocrite to say my kids don’t have ample screen time, but responsible to regulate it), pool-time, mall-time, and holiday visits to family and friends.

Mattel helped me out by sending over a selection of games this summer which are perfect for backyard challenges on the deck, evening fun after dinner, or even taking on road trips! UNO worked particularly well for us with the girls in the backseat playing on a recent trip to Alberta!

Mattel is asking everyone (parent or not) to look at how we can reconnect through games and fun play. Our idea of “connection” has shifted from face-to-face connections to online virtual connections. Both have their merits for sure, but I love that we’re looking at how we can establish real relationships through fun (and yes, through a bit of competitive game play!)

One lucky reader is going to win the following Mattel games to help them #reconnectwithgames this summer:

Pictionary: Count on big laughs when you and your friends get together to find out who’s an artist and who really isn’t! In this quick-draw classic, the guesses can be just as hilarious as the sketches, making it the perfect way to get the party started. Pictionary now includes two erasable markers, boards for drawing, and an updated Pop Culture category of clues. Year after year since 1985, Pictionary has proven itself to be the ultimate party game!

UNO: The classic card game that’s easy to pick up and impossible to put down! Players take turns matching a card in their hand with the current card shown on top of the deck either by color or number. Special action cards deliver game-changing moments as they help you defeat your opponents. These include Skips, Reverses, Draw Twos, Wild and Draw Four Wild cards. You’ll find 25 of each color (red, green, blue, and yellow), eight Wild cards, three Customizable cards and one Special Rule card inside the 112-card deck. If you can’t make a match, you must draw from the central pile! And when you’re down to one card, don’t forget to shout “UNO!” The first player to rid themselves of all the cards in their hand before their opponents wins. It’s Fast Fun for Everyone!

DOS: UNO has a new best friend, DOS! In this fun game, two is more important than one and numbers are king! To start, there are two piles in the middle of the participants, and on each player’s turn they can play on both piles with either one or two cards. In a fun twist, if a player has two cards that add up to the number of the card in the center pile, they are able to put down both cards. Just like UNO, DOS is a race to get rid of your cards before your competitors do. The first person to 200 points is the winner! And in a fun twist, now when you’re down to two cards, don’t forget to yell “Dos!” has a 108-card deck plus instructions. For 2 to 4 players. Ages 7 and older.
