So Fresh Even The Daisies Are Jealous

(R) Bonnie Jean Girls Pink Polka Dot Organza Dress $41.99 (L)Dockers Kids 4-Piece Vest Set $27.99It happens every spring. Despite having spring and summer capris, skirts, and dresses from the year previous I inevitably end up shopping for new spring clothes. I can’t stop myself. Frugal me, there I am, in the stores looking for another adorable dress either for myself or my girls (I’m also a proponent of hand me downs between the sisters, but c’mon, the dresses in the spring are soooo cute!)

It’s one of those situations where I’ve decided I just have to let it go and accept it for what it is. Spring shopping fever hits, and I need to get through it as frugally (and fashionably) as I can.

Everything’s Springing Up Sears, and these adorable picks from Sears Canada yell out spring louder than an eight year old counting skips on her rope! The Girls Bonnie Jean Pink Polka Dot Organza Girls to the right is $41.99 (perfect for spring dances and end of school year events!), and your little mister can look pretty fly too with this Dockers 4-piece Vest Set for $27.99.

Together Sequin Tank $44.99 & Together Printed Tiered Maxi Skirt $109.99

I also found this Together Sequin Tank ($44.99) and Together Printed Tiered Maxi Skirt ($109.99) which, OK I’m going to say it, together look stunning and perfect for vacation or an afternoon on the patio. The tank is also a great way to dress up denim capris (throw on something sparkly and go!)

Jess Draped Chiffon Top $24.97 & Jess Dressy Joggers $39.99

I’m curious about these Jess Dressy Joggers ($39.99) because if they feel as good as they look then I’ll probably need to buy heels and wear my new fancy joggers all spring. Paired with the Jess Draped Chiffon Top ($24.97) this outfit looks like it can go from backyard reading on the deck to an after-school ice cream shop stop (kidding, I go before I pick the kids up, don’t tell.)

To showcase its fashions, Sears Canada has partnered with leading style expert Lynn Spence to bring Canadians style tips and and tricks for spring. A regular TV style expert, Lynn is best known for her uncanny ability to fuse today’s market trends with real life styles.

Spring style tips from Lynn Spence:

Pattern party – Mixing patterns is on trend again this season, and it doesn’t have to be scary! Look for colours that complement each other, and keep in mind the scale of the prints. A bigger print should be paired with smaller print, rather than small print on small print.

Blush, baby! – Expand your “basics” horizon with new neutrals like blush. This soft pink goes with everything, works with an array of skin tones, plus it’s oh so pretty!

White, all year long – No surprise here; white pants have been breaking out of closets since January and I love it. There’s three key tips for wearing white well, first, make sure your pants are as opaque as possible (denim is the safest bet). Second, think slim vs. skin tight for fit. Last but not least, if you’re still nervous about rocking white denim, pair it with a long tunic like shirt!

Show a little ankle – Ankle length pants are a key spring and summer must have. Look for a pant that leaves room between the
hem and the top of the foot. Show some skin, it will make you appear taller and gives a great polished look.

Go bold with accessories – If you’re shy about doing bold looks for clothes, try a statement accessory like a beautiful floral bag, or bright shoe to get that exciting Spring look.

Choose you – You know your body best, so make sure you feel comfortable in whatever trend you might be trying out. I know big full skirts don’t always work for me, and that’s ok, but it doesn’t mean I shy away from bold and daring looks, I look for the ones I love and love me back. Be risky, feel good and have fun!

What do you think? Are there any trends from Lynn Spence that you’re already rocking, or is there something you may try this spring? I’m a die-hard “white-rule” fan and don’t wear it before May long weekend – which when you think about it is pretty weird. I agree with Lynn’s suggestion to show more ankle. At 5’7″ I love how ankle-length pants and heels can make me look even taller.

Happy shopping this spring – the best buys are ones that can mix and match with what you already have in your closet. So, do a survey of what you already have first, and then head out with a plan to add a few new pieces into the mix!
