It’s happened already.
With the first snowfall permanently on the ground here in Saskatchewan, we’ve started to hibernate. Gone are the carefree days of playing in the backyard for hours at a time, or trips to the park where we stayed until the sun was unbearable. Now, we spend the vast majority of our time indoors as a family and the most outdoor playtime my children get is during recess at school.
We have to find ways to stay active all year round, but especially in the coldest months of the year. Indoor sports like swimming lessons are my go-to as a weekly activity but at home it can be harder to find ways to get our heart rates up without destroying the house (note: no matter how many times they ask, playing tag in the house is never a good idea!)
Just Dance Kids 2014 arrived on our doorstep at the perfect time – on the eve of a long weekend with snowfall predicted. The title is available on both Wii, WiU and Xbox Kinect formats. We play this game on our Wii console and each of my three kids has their own remote so there’s no concern of someone missing out (yes, this mom plans ahead for such things!)
My girls are two and six and they love any opportunity to dance and show off their skills, so not surprisingly they had a blast with it just moments after popping the disc in.Just Dance Kids 2014 has over 30 fun songs with something for every age group. There are songs from Yo Gabba Gabba, The Wiggles and various nursery rhyme favourites for my youngest child, and music by chart toppers like Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez & The Scene, One Direction and more for older kids. Even adults can join in the fun with classic favourites like Footloose, Walking on Sunshine and more!
Just Dance Kids 2014 isn’t just for kids – it’s for families and friends to get together and boogie down while laughing and remembering what it’s like to be carefree and footloose! The best part? You won’t even realize you’re getting your heart rate up until the first bead of sweat appears on your brow.
In the winter months, dancing and giggling with my kids is far preferable to skin freezing while trying to get active outdoors. While there’s a time and place for that (-5 degree days in the sun, please?) anytime is a great time for Just Dance Kids 2014.

This is a great way to stay active in the winter. We like to play card and board games, everyone enjoys it.
boARD GAMES!
I’ve considered the piano steps as seen at Mastermind. We have a bit of an age range going on from 1 to 15, but they all play well together and 2 boys get along great. I think it would be something everyone could play together, including adults. Nevermind, it might take over the backyard in the summer. I might be heading to Mastermind and calling this a family gift!
An awesome activity…Who doesn’t like to dance?! I bet there was alot of laughter too…
My niece would love something like this, shes loves making up her own moves around grandma and grandpas house
This sounds like a great idea that is fun for the entire family. If you weren’t going to do this though, perhaps have everyone work together to bake something?
