I’m part of the Canadian Tire Home Crew, and as such, I received an item from the House and Home collection at Canadian Tire with 2 Missions to complete! My task is to review the product and share with fellow Canadians how this item was put to work in our household.
We received the Shark Portable Steam Cleaner and along with it instructions for 2 Missions, the first being to tackle 3 cleaning jobs in the kitchen. In this post about the Canadian Tire Home Crew, I shared the areas I planned on using this product on.
The first task was the grit and grime around my kitchen sink taps. You know the area, right at the base of the taps, that seems to trap everything and doesn’t seem to easily wipe away.
Using one of the interchangeable hand tools, I was able to get right into the smallest crevices around the taps.
I even tackled the drain – you know that gross area where unspeakable things can collect? Yeah, there.
I was happy with the results here – the grit from around the taps was eliminated, as was the gross stuff collected around the grooves in my sink. And, at the end of it all I had a sparkling clean sink with no scrubbing required.
Next up, the area under the kitchen sink. The spot where all the cleaning supplies go but also our trash can. My kids sometimes miss when throwing things away and things spill out from time to time, making this a prime area for bacteria to collect. A wipe-down won’t do, that bacteria needs to go!
And finally, the microwave that collects yucky things that splatter everywhere and cook on (whoops). Cleaning this was a breeze, then just a wipe down with a cloth or paper towel to remove the excess moisture before closing the door, and you’re done!
The Shark Portable Steam Cleaner did a fantastic job cleaning my kitchen – all without the use of any chemicals, cleaning solutions, or scents left behind. Now that this task is complete, I’m on to Mission #2!

I have been hearing a lot about these things lately. Especially in the housing I live in cleaning is a pain and when you move out it’s a nightmare the way they want the house to look.
It gets a lot of crappy reviews on how hard it is to use. What are your thoughts on that?? People say it’s awkward to keep holding the steam button and machine the whole time.
Hi Carrie! I don’t find it awkward so far. The unit itself is small. Holding down the steam button isn’t a bother, I guess because other products I have (Dyson DC35 Digital Slim for example) have the same feature – you need to hold down a button to have it work. I’m not sure what the people who have negative thoughts about it are looking for? So far, I’m happy with it – a friend is borrowing it next week to steam clean her couches, I’m curious to see what she thinks of it too.
