In general, Canadians don’t do Mexican food very well. We have a few Mexican chain restaurants but nothing compares to the great food to be had in Mexico (where I had my first taste of what a real beef taco is!) or even in the US. After a trip to the US I came home and decided I had better figure out how to make my own steak tacos at home, because waiting months and months between travel dates just wasn’t going to work for me.
It’s so easy to make these Steak Tacos at home – anyone can do it, and I promise you, they’re delicious!
- Ingredients:
- 2 or 3 steaks, just a regular marinating steak, fast fry, etc.
- 1 tsp oil
- ½ red pepper
- ½ green pepper
- ½ onion
- 1 pkg Fajita Seasoning
- lime juice
- salsa
- shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella)
- pico de gallo (optional)
- cilantro (optional)
- Slice the steak into thin strips and place in a frying pan. Slice the peppers and onions into strips and add to the frying pan - fry mixture until steak is browned.
- Add fajita seasoning, water (directions on pkg), and lime juice as desired (I never measure!)
- Cook until most of moisture is absorbed (you want the consistency to be like a fajita sauce but not runny or it will soak through the taco shells).
Spoon mixture into hard or soft taco shells (we prefer the soft ones because they are easier for the kids to bite into) and top with cheese, salsa and optional pico de gallo or cilantro.
I have been making these for years, their great and something fast and easy! Yum
Mmm…mmmm….mmmmm! Looks so yummy! I am going to try this recipe with my kids. I bet they will like it for sure!
Love tacos. So simple and everyone can make their own when I set up the taco bar on the side of the dining room table!;) mmmm!!
If you go to Blogher12 we’ll sneak into the kitchen and I’ll make you some REAL Mexican food. It’s my favorite thing to cook! 🙂
Yummy! I try to make tacos on Tuesday for our “Taco Tuesday” tradition. Lately it has been too hot to cook, but soon when the weather cools down, I will be in taco making mode again.
we love tacos but I’ve never made steak ones. I should try these
To make it it even better make your own fajita seasoning mix! It is easy, convenient and you can control your salt.
Yummy we love tacos! We also make our own seasoning!
Yum! Those look so amazing!
That’s so interesting to learn that Mexican food is not popular in Canada. I’d never know it, these tacos look amazing! I can’t wait to give them a try!
Oh yum! I know exactly what you mean about the difficulty of finding good Mexican food outside of Mexico & the US. I’m from England, and the last time I was back for a visit I made nachos and burritos for my family there so they could get a taste of somewhat more authentic Mexican food! I keep saying that someone should start an authentic Mexican restaurant in the UK – I think it would be really popular!
I am a Mexican Food freak! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Thanks for this recipe!
Yum – these sound great!
I love tacos! Always looking for another good recipe – thanks! 🙂
These looks so delicious!
The steak looks very tasty, the tacos look wonderful. I am glad your blog was recommended to me. Have a nice day 🙂
Since January I have started cooking a lot (we mostly ate fast food) and I find it less expensive and I always seem to have left overs. When I have left over steak I usually make stir fry but this is a fantastic idea. I love that it is healthy and looks like it will be easy to make. I am going to surprise my husband with these. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!
