There’s something about the return to routine, the comfort of knowing what’s next, what’s expected, and where everyone needs to be about the fall that is especially important this fall. This is the second September I’m sending my kids out the door to school with a bit of a knot in my stomach. Not the kind of knot I had when my first born walked into the school doors on the first day of Kindergarten (he’ll be walking in the doors to his first day of grade 12 this year) but the one that many parents are enduring with Covid being a part of our lives.
Still, we do need the return to school and to routine even if it looks a bit different and may be uprooted once again in a few weeks or month (prepare for everything, I suppose). For me, working from home, this means the house is once again quiet and the dogs and I develop our own routine for the days and weeks ahead. One of my favorite hobbies is reading – getting lost in a story and promising myself that I’ll put the book down after “just one more chapter” and realizing I’ve read half the book in one afternoon. I call it self-care and therefore it’s not at all surprising that it’s something I’ve let go this year. I promised myself I’d read more and didn’t. It’s something I intend to dive into this fall with a quiet house. Simon + Schuster – being awesome as they are – shared some of their top summer reads with me this month, and guess what – I’ve got them ALL to share with you in one giant giveaway! Here’s what’s going to be on my bookshelf this fall and what a very lucky reader will win!

You’l notice there are two books in the photo above on the right as well – those are some YA novels for my thirteen year old to check out, thanks to Simon + Schuster. I hope my kids develop a love of reading like I did as a child, though I didn’t have the temptation of a screen (I had an Atari…) so there’s always that. Like me, my daughter has to dedicate time to reading and when she does, gets engrossed in a story.
Frankly in Love meets Shark Tank in this feel-good romantic comedy about two entrepreneurial Korean American teens who butt heads—and maybe fall in love—while running competing Korean beauty businesses at their high school.
In this rom-com about rom-coms, in the spirit of Kasie West and Jenn Bennett, a hopeless romantic teen attempts to secure a happily-ever-after moment with her forever crush, but finds herself reluctantly drawn to the boy next door.
Phew! That’s a lot of books right? I’m a big murder-suspense-mystery fan, so I’m absolutely diving into Such A Quiet Place (I love Megan Miranda’s books) and The Perfect Family (if you click on the link to read more, you’ll see why, it’s really intriguing). All the books look great, and I’ll get through them this fall and winter if I dedicate the time to it like I promised myself.
