There was a Saturday Night Live skit recently that (as they often do) nailed it. It was a psychic in 2019 telling a group of people what they would and wouldn’t be doing in the year ahead. One guest was surprised to learn they’d be doing a lot of coloring. Another couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t be attending any concerts. It’s the world we’re in right now in 2020 and no one could have predicted it, which I suppose is why the skit hits home.
Beyond coloring, reading, cooking (I made far too many cinnamon buns) and playing board games, many people discovered a love of puzzles. I admit, it took us longer to get there. I didn’t embrace puzzles until I was sent the Ravensburger Disney Villainous Maleficent 1000pc Puzzle for our holiday gift guide. And then? Something really great happened.

Back to our happy surprise. The puzzle building started with my 9 and 12 year old daughters, who built the outside frame (as you do, at least I remembered that much!) But then, I got interested in it, and took turns with the girls working on the puzzle, either in a duo or sometimes just on my own with a cup of coffee. And then, my husband sat down and got to work. One evening, he and I sat down and worked on it. And then, another evening, my 16 year old walked in and placed several pieces, having an entirely different approach to puzzle building than the rest of us.
And then, one morning last weekend I finished the final pieces (which, I have to say, is super satisfying when everything just fits so nicely into place, unlike life!) Our puzzle is particularly special because it also includes the piece our chihuahua chewed in the bottom right corner!
We loved our puzzle so much that we went to Mastermind Toys (where this original puzzle was sent to us from) and purchased Ravensburger Puzzle Conserver Glue to we could glue and then hang our puzzle later. In this final picture it’s then glued to a piece of cardboard. Then, while we were in the store we purchased 2 more Ravensburger puzzles. Yes, they had other brands but we had such success with Ravensburger and read so many positive reviews that we decided to stick with that brand. Now, we’re working on our second family puzzle and this has been a nice surprise in our household – a new hobby that we’re all enjoying.

I love jigsaw puzzles & do them at work (when we’re back in the office of course) as it’s a great excuse to get up from my desk to stretch, take a break and not be glued to my phone. It gives my eyes a rest from screens & clears my head. Cat at home makes it hard to continue the brain break as we WFH!
My spouse and I used to do puzzles all the time, we did so many that it actually became manautinous so we have taken a bit of a break. I have to agree that the quality is definitely there when it comes to Ravensburger puzzles !! We now have a very good table in the basement that would be amazing for puzzles…..I think we are going to try it again soon !!

I grew up always doing puzzles with my Papa. Everytime he would finish one, he’d get puzzle glue and cardboard and then they’d hang on his walls. He passed last year, so puzzles give me find memories now ❤️
