Who doesn’t love Reese Witherspoon? If her heart-warming characters she embraces in every role (from Elle in Legally Blonde to June Carter Cash in Walk The Line) didn’t make her endearing to us, her down-home sweet Southern personality certainly does. It’s easy to play a role, a good actress can convince you she really is as sweet, or daring, or rebellious as the role calls for of course, but with easy access to internet gossip, fans know more than ever who is the real deal and who is just, well, playing a role of a nice and decent person.
Moms love Reese Witherspoon and now with the release of her book Whiskey in a Teacup on September 18th, you’re going to want to invite her to your next girls-night-in and probably make her your child’s Godmother. Since we can’t do that, the best we can do is dive into her world in this book, learn a little more about her childhood and family life, and come away with some fantastic recipes and stories to share with your girlfriends.
Simon and Schuster Canada sent me an advance copy of the book and I’ve been flipping through it often. It’s the perfect coffee-table book, but also a great book to read before bed (except you might get hungry!) The book is divided by themes and offers practical advice about to entertaining, decorating, and fabulous Southern down-home cooking, applicable to every budget. I loved the stories about her grandmother and how important her girlfriends are to her (quality vs. quantity!)
Dorothea always said that a combination of beauty and strength made southern women “whiskey in a teacup.” We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside we’re strong and fiery.
I think all of us can have a little southern girl inside in spirit, whether we’re in Reese’s element in Nashville or up north in Saskatchewan. Look for Whiskey in a Teacup in stores and online starting September 18th (I think this would make a lovely birthday or ‘just because’ gift for a friend!)
