Famoso’s New Spring Menu Is Here

Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria has two new pizzas, as well as a returning favourite, available now at all Famoso locations. Perfect for the fresh spring season, the menu features the brand-new Mattina and Prawn Pesto pizzas, as well as the return of the Don Andreas pizza, a seasonal favourite.

“We’re really excited to share our new spring menu items with our fans, including two seasonal pizzas and the return of one of our most popular pizzas, the Don Andreas” said Justin Lussier, CEO and co-founder of Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria. “Our Mattina pizza is a Naples-style pizza topped with a fried egg you’ll want to get your hands on.”

Famoso is a traditional neighbourhood pizzeria that uses fresh ingredients and house-made, hand stretched dough to create their Neapolitan pizzas and pastas. With new locations opening across Canada, Regina is fortunate to have three Famoso locations spread out through the city and fortunately for me one in my end of the city too!

We sampled items from the new Spring menu at Famoso along with some of my favorites (I couldn’t resist!) and in case you need another reason to visit Famoso soon, here are my picks:

Blackberry + Goat Cheese Salad (New!)
Mixed field greens, arugula, blackberries, goat cheese, candied pecans, mint, house-made blackberry vinaigrette. I’d order this in a full size for lunch for sure, delicious!

Proscuitto Wrapped Mozza Balls
It’s the reason I go to Famoso, ahead of the delicious pizza. Indeed one of my favorite appetizers ever, and especially on Wednesdays when you can order them on special (along with half priced bottles of wine!)

Truffle Parmesan Wings
Also available in Limoncello-chili, BBQ, and Spicy Buffalo, these wings are a little more gourmet than the pub down the street. I’m told by the manager of the Rochdale location we visited that Limoncello-chili is her favorite and it will be on my list next!

Prawn Pesto Neopolitan Pizza (New)
Fior-di-latte, seasoned ricotta, sautéed prawns, roasted garlic, sun-dried tomatoes, arugula, pistachio pesto, lemon wedge. This was my husband’s pick which then brought about a discussion about shrimp on pizza. Am I the only one that clearly remembers all-dressed pizzas coming with shrimp or was that just the city I lived in growing up? My husband – who grew up in the same city – has no memory of this! In any case, it was decided that shrimp does indeed have a place on neopolitan pizza.

Don Andreas Neopolitan Pizza (Returning Favorite)
Crème fraîche, fior-di-latte mozzarella, roasted chicken, corn and chipotle salsa, avocado, cilantro, lime wedge, side of Valentina hot sauce. Add the hot sauce for extra zing, and you’ve got yourself a delicious pizza, or is it a soft taco? I took the leftovers home and my kids devoured it! A winner here.

Dolce + Banana
Caramelized, oven-roasted bananas coated in caramelized brown sugar, crushed pecans, caramel sauce, vanilla bean gelato. Another not-so-new item on the Famoso item that I can’t resist (almost) every time I visit. It’s easily one of my favorite, if not the favorite, desserts in the city and I’ve also decided that this, too, is about 5 calories because there’s bananas and bananas are a fruit (same theory goes for the fruit in sangria, by the way.)

If you’re not in the Regina area, you can click here to find a Famoso Neopolitan Pizza location near you! P.S. Regina – the Famoso Patio is now open for the summer!
