Parents Have The Back To School Blues! Sears Canada Can Help

Back to school season is a bag of mixed emotions. In my experience, the reaction from kids changes as they grow. Younger kids look forward to the start of school, bubbling with excitement and promise while older kids tend to meet the idea with a groan (or, they meet everything with a groan, that too.)

Parents have differing emotions too. Many love the carefree summer months, the ability to travel and explore with their kids, and having no schedule. Others, like me, start counting down to the first day of school August 1st because working from home with three kids underfoot is a bit of a challenge. A new reaction is emerging, thanks in part to the rising cost (and requests) with school supplies and clothing. Parents have the back to school blues. They’re not feeling so hot about all that back to school shopping, and really who can blame them?

In fact, a recent survey shared by Sears Canada shows that 66% of Canadians feel financially strained at back to school time. 45% of Canadians report spending $121 or more on just one back to school outfit! I read that and thought, how can that be? Of course, I view things through my frugal-tinted glasses, so I had to sit back and think about how quickly that could happen. I suppose it could, but I can assure you I am not that parent. I count myself among the 63% of Canadians in the survey who said that they find it hard to afford the ‘cool’ clothing my kids want.

Luckily, Sears Canada has created affordable stylish top-to-toe outfits for $65 and under to keep kids in the latest trends and help parents stay on budget. I shared our finds from Sears Canada this week at Global Regina Morning News – here’s the segment:

I was joined this time by my two oldest kids, who I mistakenly called beautiful much to my son’s annoyance. They helped model some of our Sears Canada picks (Nevaeh’s shirt was $29.99, her Nevada Skinny Jeans $25, and Elijah’s Converse T-shirt was $16.97 along with his Nevada jeans at $25).

In the segment I mentioned some amazing deals at Sears Canada, including backpacks like the one above for $9.99 and select t-shirts, including the Sophia The First one seen above for $2.99! I know those are deals every mom can get behind (and if you’re like me, you might stock up in bigger sizes in those t-shirts for later on this school year!)

Sears back to schoolThese are also stand-out favorites from Sears Canada. Pricing: Cherkoee Hoodie $29.97, Nevada Denim $19.97, Lost & Found Music Studios Shirt $24.97 (this is the same brand my daughter is wearing in the segment above, she loves all the colours and designs!) and Lost & Found Music Studios Leggings $19.97.

Sears Canada is a trusted Canadian retailer where you can find everything you need for back-to-school time at affordable prices in-store and online (sears.ca/backtoschool) across the country. While it’s not the same as it was waaaaay back when I was growing up, flipping through the catalogue and picking out my favorites to ask my mom to order, there’s still something so familiar with heading to Sears Canada for back to school, don’t you think?

Check out these highlighted deals and more in store or online. And chin-up parents with back to school blues, soon we’ll all be covered in notes and forms and won’t even remember what we were sad about in the first place.
