Canadian Women Dominating Rio 2016

How amazing is it to watch our Canadian athletes, especially our Canadian women, do so incredibly well in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics? It’s been one of the biggest news stories to come out of the Olympics this year and is certainly a discussion in our household as a mom of two girls.

The excitement began on Day 1 with Penny Oleksiak and the Canadian women’s 4×100-metre freestyle relay team swimming to bronze. On Day 2, Oleksiak added a silver in the 100m butterfly. Day 3 brought two more bronze medals with back-stroker Kylie Masse, and in rugby with the Canadian Women’s team.

“Girl power, right?” rugby captain Jen Kish told reporters. “I think as females we have something to prove. We can compete in a male-dominated world in sport.”

Rosie MacLennan’s repeat gold medal performance on the trampoline and Saskatchewan’s Brianne Theisen-Eaton’s inspiring bronze in the heptathlon were also big highlights!

Rosie MacLennon Olympics 2016

Ahead of the Summer 2016 Olympics, Jane MacLennon, Rosie’s mom, had this to say about her daughter’s achievements, “Talent is a privilege not to be wasted so you must work hard to maximize your capabilities. Rosie has taken her talent, worked hard to push her limits and reached the top of the podium.” I think those words can be echoed in the minds of all the parents of our Canadian athletes that have stepped onto the podium this summer!

Rosie and her mom are both Tide brand Ambassadors and members of the P&G Thank You Mom team. It’s been so wonderful watching their story over the past few months covering their partnership and Olympic experience. Watching Jane in the stands made me teary, as it did many. Congratulations to all the athletes, and of course to all the little ones like my own watching…and practicing. 🙂
