If you haven’t seen it on TV or online, here is the current video shared by Mark’s highlighting Canadian’s responses to the question, “What makes your dad so special?” and the answers, as expected, were exactly the same as what many of us would say. Yes, even those of us who have lost our dad’s.

 

Admittedly, Father’s Day has been difficult for me since losing my dad in August of 2014. This will be my second Father’s Day without a dad, but working through my emotions last year I realized I can turn Father’s Day into a beautiful thing. First, it gives me the opportunity to think about my dad, growing up with him, and the life lessons he taught me. It can be hard to see others celebrating the day with their dads who are still here, but I take comfort in knowing that he’s moved on from his pain and remind myself that he’d likely think my moping was silly. No point in being upset about something we can’t change. “It is what is is,” he would say. I miss him, but I will celebrate him.

Second, it gives me the opportunity to thank my husband for being an amazing, loving, patient, and the best father to our three kids. Some psychologists say we look for characteristics in our spouses from our opposite-sex parent, and I absolutely believe this to be true. My husband has many of the same personality attributes that my dad did, and I don’t think that was a fluke.
