This past weekend marked the grand opening of the first Save-On-Foods location in Saskatchewan, right here in Regina! And what an opening it was. I was there Saturday morning, along with what felt like half of the city, checking out everything that Save-On-Foods has to offer it’s Regina customers. I browsed the aisles, handed out surprise gift cards to happy shoppers, chatted about their first thoughts, and also observed the chatter and people around me.
I saw moms shopping with all their kids (in the photo at the top, a mom with 5 boys including two sets of twins!), couples married 40 years dispensing beautiful marriage advice (“I grew up in a time where I learned that if it’s broken you repair it, you didn’t throw it away.”) and kids excited to get their faces painted for free (likely in a deal with mom that in return they’d be happy shoppers, at least that’s the card I’d play!)
I listened to shoppers commenting on the wide selection including housewares and even kid’s toys, the fresh produce, the wide aisles, and the More Rewards program. I found lots of people meeting and catching up in the aisles (this is Regina after all, and it’s what we do) and a line-up at the meat counter for Darrell’s Deals this week which included a ridiculous crazy price on steak.
Saving money is a top priority for families, and many are stuck on finding new ways to do it. We have a set amount for our grocery budgets, but how do we stretch it further? The thing is, it’s not that there’s a secret code for frugal shoppers only, it’s just a matter of learning and understanding a few key tips when shopping – check out this post sharing some of my top tips to save more money in 2016. When shopping at Save-On-Foods, frugal shoppers need to know about the Always Lowest Guarantee.
So, what does this all mean for you – the consumer? First, it means that every week, Save-On-Foods is going to scour their competitors flyers to ensure they match the lowest price guaranteed on over 850+ items in store. Those are the items that, should you find them listed in a current flyer elsewhere, will be FREE when you point it out to a Save-On-Foods customer service representative.
My first question was: how is the consumer to know what items fall in that 850 item category? I found the answer – the list is actually on the Save-On-Foods website right here. Because this one is dated April 1st, 2016 that tells me that they update it every so often, so it’s a good idea to check the site every so often yourself to see what items are on there. If you want to be a savvy shopper, print the list and keep it handy when looking through flyers. Remember, these are the items Save-On-Foods is confident they will have the lowest price on every single week. So confident that if you find it cheaper elsewhere, it’s yours free at Save-On-Foods.
I like this. Not because a customer can score free products (which is always great) but because it means Save-On-Foods is putting their money where their mouth is. They want your loyalty and are doing to work to gain it.
Now, what if you find an item priced lower, but it’s not on that 850+ item list? You’re already a Save-On-Foods shopper, and don’t want to run to a different store just for that item. Easy. Save-On-Foods will happily price match those items as well to save you time. Again, they want that customer loyalty and will work for it. Hooray!
I wish they’d come to Ontario
Love that they scour competitors flyers to ensure they match the lowest price. Hope they expand into MB!
Enjoy Regina! We have Save-On-Foods in BC, and I love it!
If I find it cheaper elsewhere it is mine free at Save-On! Now that is something to be excited about!
The pastries look really nice. I will have one of those and one of those, lol
We don’t have this store in Ontario. Be nice if we did though.
Looks like a great store with some great deals. Now please come to Newfoundland 🙂
I loved Save on when I lived in BC, I hope to get over to the new store soon! I live quite a ways away from the location but if the deals are good enough, I’ll be making the trip regularly.

Glad to see SOF expanding into other parts of Canada!
I wish they had one here is Nova Scotia.
WHat a great looking store. Love all of the local products. WOuld love to see this in Ontario.
I love combining the Flipp app with a store that price matches. Save-On-Foods can be pricey on things like produce (but better quality) but with price matching you get the best of both worlds!
Looks like a nice store. We don’t have Save On Foods here in Ontario.
I wish we had a Save-On-Foods near me. Looks like a great store

Wow that bakery looks amazing
We don’t have a Save-On-Foods in my area. It’s too bad. I’m always looking for the best deals!
I also wish they would open up here in Ontario. I think they would give some of our food chains a run for their money.
I wish we had one where I live.
The baked goods look amazing. I wish they were in Ontario.
sounds like an awesome store, wish they would come to Ontario.
I haven’t shopped at Save-On-Foods yet but there is one not too far from me. I wasn’t aware of the 850+ list and as a consumer, that is impressive & savings are important to me. What also appeals to me is the ‘shop local’ signs which I want to support local products any time I can, so this is a bonus!
Looks like a great store, waiting for one to come to Ontario
Loving those desserts – yummy!!
We don’t have this chain in ON unfortunately!
I wish we had save on foods here where we live, it would be nice to have more choices and better prices
