Today, September 20th, is Rediscover Nature day! Of course, getting outside and spending time together as a family is good any time, but having a specific day to ensure you’re getting out there is a great idea. It didn’t hurt that the weather in Regina today is absolutely beautiful (23 degrees!).
We headed to Wascana Centre, a 930 hectare area in the heart of Regina. “One of Wascana Centre’s mandates is to be devoted to conservation of the environment. Within the Centre’s boundaries is an impressive marsh ecosystem that many species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, insects and plants call home. It is an extraordinary place to explore nature without leaving the city.” Perfect, right?
My oldest daughter made a list of all the things she saw while on our walk – this is the beginning while we were waiting for the rest of the family to join us!
Wascana Centre is home to walking paths, sidewalks for making travel with bikes and strollers easier, and of course the vast lake where we watched people canoe across (with a dog in tow we didn’t think that was a good plan for today!)
It was a beautiful day for a September walk but we all agreed we’ll come back again when the air is a little more crisp and the leaves are crunching on the ground!
However, beautiful days like today mean you can race “boats” (pieces of wood) with our names written on them, in the lake.
Yes, even our dog came out with us for Rediscover Nature day. We may or may not have found some forgotten flowers from a bridal party on a bench, pretty aren’t they?

Sounds like you had an awesome outing together, the air was real cool here but did warm up some which was nice, spent some time outside with my dogs, since hubby was towing this weekend he didn’t get to enjoy and relax to much. So whose wood boat won the race?

We walk nearly every day at this time of year just to see the beautiful colors and smells of fall.We love the crisp fall air and find it’s just perfect because we don’t get hot and there are so many lovely things to see.
This is my favourite time of the year. We are much more likely to go out in the fall than in the summer (I don’t do well in the sun or heat). We spent the 20th outside at the park and it was a gorgeous day.
