contest-600x600Did you know? The second Thursday of October each year is World Sight Day. The day is focused on bringing global attention to vision impairment and blindness and this year the day falls on Thursday, October 10th, 2014.

Back for a second year, Love Your Eyes is an annual campaign brought to you by the Opticians Council of Canada at this time of the year to celebrate.  And celebrate they will!   Starting September 6th and counting down to World Sight Day on October 10th, Love Your Eyes aims to educate Canadians on vision health while also giving you the opportunity to win a huge amount of prizes – one for every single day the campaign is live.

It’s so simple to enter too – just answer the daily question to receive entries for weekly prizes. Every correct answer also gives you an entry into the following week’s prizes as well as the grand prize!  What kind of prizes are available?  Take a peek, some weeks have multiple winners!

Week 1
5 People Win Movies for a Year! *2 Cineplex movie tickets a month for 12 months

Week 2
10 Kindles

Week 3
3 Ipad mini’s

Week 4

Week 5
Groceries for a Year! *$3000 in PC Gift Cards broken down into one $250 PC Gift Card a month for 12 months

I know we all love contests, but I certainly can appreciate one where you not only can enter to win a ton of fabulous prizes, but learn a thing or two as well (which, of course, is the aim of any brand or company putting forth a promotion!) In this case, we’re learning about vision health for our families!

It wouldn’t feel right to give you a call to action on a great contest without giving you some important information from Licensed Opticians of Canada too – with back to school in full swing and a busy fall ahead for all of us, here are some important tips to remember:

Be aware of eye strain. This can occur if you spend a lot of time looking at the screens of a computer, hand held device, or television. Be sure to blink frequently to alleviate the strain.

Wear good quality sunglasses, even on cloudy days, for protection from ultraviolet light – and wear goggles for protection if you do hazardous work of any kind.

Commit to a regular workout routine. This is good for your overall health, including your eyes.

Commit to a balanced diet of protein, especially fish, plus plenty of fruit and colourful vegetables.

Most importantly, ask the optician crafting your glasses or contact lenses if you have any questions about the eyewear, or about other visual needs. They are highly skilled to interpret your prescription and they work to exacting standards to produce the perfect lens to meet rigorous national standards.

Now – go enter the contest today, and get all your daily entries in!  Good luck!
