Cheerios are a staple in many Canadian households – if not before we become parents ourselves, certainly after that fact.
I’ve eaten Apple Cinnamon Cheerios since high school, though after moving away and settling in to domestic life with my husband, I’m not sure either of us actually ate breakfast at home! Along came baby, and that changed. Once he was able to handle solids and had a tooth or two to work with, Cheerios were once again a common site on our table.
New Multi-Grain Cheerios + Ancient Grains has just launched and can be found on grocery store shelves across Canada now! The new cereal includes the classic Multi-Grain Cheerios you love with the added natural goodness of lightly puffed and toasted kamut, spelt and corn, and is sweetened with just a hint of cinnamon and spice.
I was sent a box of this cereal in advance of its release and quietly placed it in the pantry. It turns out that the kids will eat Cheerios anything without a second glance (OK, to be truthful, they love Chocolate the best and do notice that!)
So, why kamut and spelt? What makes them special? Well, basically they’re special because they are oh-so-original. Unlike modern wheat, they aren’t really processed and changed from their original form (wheat has been harvested and grown differently over the decades). Kamut is an ancient Egyptian word for wheat and it’s a relative of modern wheat, durum wheat to be exact. Researchers have also found evidence supporting the claim that spelt and kamut may be easier for humans to digest than wheat.
Look for new Multi-Grain Cheerios + Ancient Grains on store shelves now and add a little more wholesome goodness to your day. Plus, you can sound all fancy when you tell the other moms at the park that you totally had your kamut and spelt for the day thankyouverymuch.
