Dippity Do Girls With Curls

Girls with Curls2By Tara Richter…

“Oh I love your curly hair!!” is a comment I’ve grown accustomed to hearing. I often think to myself, while politely smiling “if you only knew the half of it”. Curly hair can be a bit of a beast, and so often has a mind of its own. It is sensitive to heat, light, humidity, cold etc. In essence, it’s an extremely demanding hair type.

I must say that I was seriously about ready to CHOP all my long locks off after struggling with attempts to find a hair product that would work with my hair, without leaving it feeling crunchy, greasy, frizzy, sticky or bulky. I looked to all the expensive salon brands with their exuberant claims to work miracles on my curly locks – only to be disappointed with the results. I needed something that would make my hair look and feel “natural’ yet battle the elements to eliminate frizz, provide moisture and all without harsh chemicals.

To my pleasant surprise, dippity-do (which has been around since the 50s) has a new product line just for curly hair and appropriately called Girls with Curls. More than just hair gel, dippity-do offers 5 products for Girls with Girls including Shampoo, Conditioner, Deep Conditioning Treatment, Shaping Gelée, and Curl Cream. All of the products are safe for coloured hair and what I really appreciate is that they are paraben-free and sulfate-free. I am actually impressed with this “drug-store” type of product given its low price point and incredible results. It really does follow through on its claims to provide shiny, frizz-free, bouncy, and light-weight natural-looking curly hair.

One thing is certain with curly hair, is that no two heads of curly locks will be the same. Each person’s hair is unique on its need for moisture, conditioning, gel etc. It is another reason this whole product line is so great. I can really customize the use of each of these items depending on the day, the weather or my activity. Some days I need more conditioner, or the deep conditioner, some days I only need a quick shampoo and some curl defining cream. The ingredients in these products really do help create great, soft curls and do not add any additional bulk or weight.

I was a bit skeptical with the pink Gelée and fully expected a head of crunchy ‘gel’ hair. To my surprise, it is not sticky at all, and provides a light-weight and natural feel. Some days I even just run some of the curl defining cream through my hair to rejuvenate the curls.

Now if you’re anything like me, you may be thinking that there is NO WAY this product, by makers of dippity-do, with its low-price point could possibly be good for your curly locks. However, after using this product line for 2 weeks I can confidently assure you that not only is it a good product line, it even far exceeds ANY of the over-priced salon type “curly” products that I’ve tried – and I’ve tried a lot. Where can you get your hands on such a great find? The good news is that the dippity-do Girls with Curls line can be found at Walmart, Target, Uniprix and London Drugs. The price-point? I almost can’t believe it as I type write it – how does $6.99 sound? (Gasp) I know right? Time to stock up!
