Next Issue Canada: Making Life Easier in 2014

next issue canada logoHave you seen the commercials for Next Issue Canada on TV this holiday season?  I have, and they definitely piqued my interest.  It’s true that, with 3 kids, my magazine reading time has been swiftly replaced with homework time, cooking-dinner-time, dealing-with-tantrum time and (my favorite) bedtime-routine-time.

Still, grabbing one of my favorite magazines and losing myself for even 30 minutes is a luxury I love.  Of course, the first task is finding the magazine pile containing the 3 magazines I’m currently subscribed to and then ensuring it’s going to be in the same spot the next time I pick it up.  Currently that spot is my bathroom closet, since a bubble-bath and magazine is my favorite current luxury (see, I don’t require much!)

Next Issue is now giving me my bathroom closet space back because now the shelf that holds those magazines can now hold more bubble bath!  My magazine pile is now in the recycling bin and my favorite magazines are all sitting pretty on my iPad!

New to Canada, they are offering Canadians the opportunity to try Next Issue Canada for free on a 30 day trial.  I signed up and know after just a few days that I’ll be continuing my subscription after my trial is up.  There are two options with Next Issue Canada:

Since it’s a free trial, I opted for the Unlimited Premium, though after 30 days I’ll probably switch to Unlimited Basic.  You do need to enter your credit card info for the free trial period and it won’t be charged in that 30 day period – but you then have to remember to log into your account and cancel it later if you don’t wish to continue.

The Unlimited Basic plan makes total (frugal!) sense to me for $9.99 a month with access to (at today’s count) 123 magazines between my husband and I.  I love not having a stack of magazines to take up space and it’s total convenience being able to take 123 magazines with me in my purse to the kid’s swimming lessons!

Over the holidays, it was so nice to be able to snuggle with a blanket on the couch and read my favorite magazines.  Just last night I lost myself in US Magazine issues for almost an hour after the kids were in bed.  Not exactly deep reading but a nice break from the holiday stress for sure!

So what has been keeping me intrigued these past few nights snuggled up with my iPad?  Well!

photo 4The latest issue (January 2014) of Today’s Parent has a great article in their Steps & Stages section for Big Kids on sarcasm, titled “what…ever!” that was a great read for this mom of a 9-year-old boy.

You can also go back through previous issues of magazines (!!!) and that’s where I found an article in the July 29, 2013 issue of US Weekly on Cory Monteith after his passing titled His Secret Struggles.  I can actually grab all the US Weekly magazines back to April 29th through Next Issue Canada, hooray!

The magazines actually bookmark themselves on the last page you read when you go back to your Library, so it’s easy to pick up where you left off!  The last article I read in the January 2014 issue of Chatelaine is one I’m taking a screen shot of (you can also print them!) for tips!  The title?  Top 10 Flat-Belly Secrets!  Hey, the holidays were gooood!  On that note, there’s an amazing looking recipe for Coconut Chicken Soup in the January 2014 issue of Parents and the Family Circle January 2014 issue features made to order, staffer’s slow cooker favorites, yum!

Ready to dive in to some of your favorite magazines, using a tablet or smart phone that you’re already using anyway?  It’s a total no-brainer that Next Issue Canada is a game changer for busy people like you and me!
