Have you seen the commercials for Next Issue Canada on TV this holiday season? I have, and they definitely piqued my interest. It’s true that, with 3 kids, my magazine reading time has been swiftly replaced with homework time, cooking-dinner-time, dealing-with-tantrum time and (my favorite) bedtime-routine-time.
Still, grabbing one of my favorite magazines and losing myself for even 30 minutes is a luxury I love. Of course, the first task is finding the magazine pile containing the 3 magazines I’m currently subscribed to and then ensuring it’s going to be in the same spot the next time I pick it up. Currently that spot is my bathroom closet, since a bubble-bath and magazine is my favorite current luxury (see, I don’t require much!)
Next Issue is now giving me my bathroom closet space back because now the shelf that holds those magazines can now hold more bubble bath! My magazine pile is now in the recycling bin and my favorite magazines are all sitting pretty on my iPad!
New to Canada, they are offering Canadians the opportunity to try Next Issue Canada for free on a 30 day trial. I signed up and know after just a few days that I’ll be continuing my subscription after my trial is up. There are two options with Next Issue Canada:
Since it’s a free trial, I opted for the Unlimited Premium, though after 30 days I’ll probably switch to Unlimited Basic. You do need to enter your credit card info for the free trial period and it won’t be charged in that 30 day period – but you then have to remember to log into your account and cancel it later if you don’t wish to continue.
The Unlimited Basic plan makes total (frugal!) sense to me for $9.99 a month with access to (at today’s count) 123 magazines between my husband and I. I love not having a stack of magazines to take up space and it’s total convenience being able to take 123 magazines with me in my purse to the kid’s swimming lessons!
I also love how interactive with my tablet the articles can be. What I mean by that is that it’s not a matter of simply scrolling through a magazine article. Scroll up or down, left or right, depending on the article (sidebar text sometimes scrolls alone with the main photo staying put) and some articles even have a fun “click for the answer” or “click for more info” like this one in Parents Magazine. I love this!
Over the holidays, it was so nice to be able to snuggle with a blanket on the couch and read my favorite magazines. Just last night I lost myself in US Magazine issues for almost an hour after the kids were in bed. Not exactly deep reading but a nice break from the holiday stress for sure!
So what has been keeping me intrigued these past few nights snuggled up with my iPad? Well!
The latest issue (January 2014) of Today’s Parent has a great article in their Steps & Stages section for Big Kids on sarcasm, titled “what…ever!” that was a great read for this mom of a 9-year-old boy.
You can also go back through previous issues of magazines (!!!) and that’s where I found an article in the July 29, 2013 issue of US Weekly on Cory Monteith after his passing titled His Secret Struggles. I can actually grab all the US Weekly magazines back to April 29th through Next Issue Canada, hooray!
The magazines actually bookmark themselves on the last page you read when you go back to your Library, so it’s easy to pick up where you left off! The last article I read in the January 2014 issue of Chatelaine is one I’m taking a screen shot of (you can also print them!) for tips! The title? Top 10 Flat-Belly Secrets! Hey, the holidays were gooood! On that note, there’s an amazing looking recipe for Coconut Chicken Soup in the January 2014 issue of Parents and the Family Circle January 2014 issue features made to order, staffer’s slow cooker favorites, yum!
Ready to dive in to some of your favorite magazines, using a tablet or smart phone that you’re already using anyway? It’s a total no-brainer that Next Issue Canada is a game changer for busy people like you and me!
Visit Next Issue Canada here to sign up, then download the app and get started! You can also visit Next Issue Canada on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest! Yes, they’re social!
I was trying to find one of these in Canada, thank you!
You’re welcome!
This is a great deal! I love magazines as well but hate the clutter. Thanks for the heads up.

I like magazines but find them to costly
I don’t have the time or interest in reading magazines.
Signed up last week and have been enjoying it ever since!!
I actually got a card from them in the mail before I noticed them on tv and I gotta say I have been loving them ever since I signed up! I love how interactive a lot of the magazines are, especially the cooking magazines and the selection!! Its everything that I have ever wanted from digital magazine subscriptions and Im so happy to have found them!
I don’t get the time to read magazine unfortunately ….
This sounds great but would be no good for me. I do not have a smart phone or a tablet so it wouldn’t do me much good. I don’t read magazines that often unless they have something to do with knitting or crocheting.
What a great idea! thanks for the excellent write up most informative.
great idea and no clutter
I was looking at signing up for this. Sounds great!
That is very cool for those who read allot of magazines. I have only ever had subscriptions given to me. I do enjoy reading them occasionally.
I love magazines…I have just finished 3 free months of Elle Canada.
best way to find recipes then running around trying to find the magazine you saw it in.
I find that magazines nowadays seem to be mostly ads and I refuse to pay to be bombarded by them
I liked your Next Issue Canada: Making Life Easier in 2014 post.
I don’t buy magazines very often but i read them whenever i get a chance and it’s great to know this exists.
interesting ,,don’t live in Canada but live a hour from the border
love these types of magazines but they become too costly to buy I used to
wow, no more magazine stacks all over the living room; thanks for the heads up. Sounds great
i unfortunately dont have much time to read magazines these days
Magazines are where I get all my recipes from!
Great idea, I gave up buying magazines because of the clutter. Will have to check this out!

What a great idea!
Thanks for the info. I didn’t know and off to get my trial.
Great magazine selections! US Weekly! I’m sold 🙂
I used to easily spend $10 a week on magazines, this sounds like an awesome bargain!
Will have to check out the trial 🙂
I am going to sign up for a trial. This is such a value with so many options too.
I love magazines, but they usually cost so much
Great way to look at magazines!
I love magazines but the cost and the waste is too much for me
Sounds pretty convenient.
very cool !! I havent heard of this till now ..might be something I will have to do for myself
Sure would make browsing the magazine isle a little easier.
Sounds like fun. i read a lot of magazines.
This is a great idea! Most of the time I would love to read a magazine but couldn’t be bothered to carry one around.
This is an awesome idea less clutter and great deal , thanks for sharing !!! 🙂
I received info about this in the mail a few weeks ago and have been contemplating this as it seems a great way to access all sorts of magazines
What a great idea, and its not like you get the same one all the time, its always different and new! Neat!! Thanks for sharing 🙂
This magazine is really an interesting read for me,touching base with so many of my own interests.I will be looking into getting it.
seems like a great idea for magazine lovers
I think this is a wonderful idea. I don’t like to get subscriptions because I usually just want to read a couple articles.
I love reading magazines online or on my phone so much easier to do…
I have no interest in magazines.
Seen the commercial for this….think my hubby is more excited about this then anyone…….as it will free up a lot of space in the living room lol
Wow that is so convenient. Definitely cuts down on the clutter.
Yay! Thank you! Instead of piles of paper everywhere, I will have it all on my tablet.
This is a great value. I don’t read many magazines. But this price is still reasonable.
Holy..$9.99 a month. That is a fabulous price. I would love this app on a rainy , not going out there, Sunday kind of day. I have to say though when it comes to my cooking magazines I still like to have the actual magazine.
I just got a renewal notice for a magazine. I think I’ll skip the renewal and go with Next Issue (at least the free trial).
so handy!
I’m going to give Next Issue a shot because It’s a great price and what a great way to get away from paper issues.
I really liek the idea of cutting back on paper issues (and waste) of magazines,.. Great bargain too 🙂
This looks like a great deal! I’ve cut back on the magazines I read now, but a few years ago I borrowed stacks of magazines from the local public library every month. This would cost a bit more but would be more convenient for anyone who likes to read electronically. Thanks for letting us know about this option.
i had no idea they had consumer reports. now i’m very interested in this service
My mothers friend passes along magazine to me which I’m grateful for. However, the idea of being more “green” appeals to me! I think I kinda will miss the ability to tear out pages and hold a magazine though. Times are a changing…
