Being raised by a fire-fighter, I was always mindful of fire-safety. Throughout my life, my dad has told terrible stories about homes that burned to the ground from Christmas trees, a forgotten pot on the stove, cigarette butts and of course, unattended candles. According to Health Canada there are on average 8001 candle fires per year, with 8 yearly fire deaths, 115 injuries and $26.2 million in property damage. The National Candle Association2 (USA) sites that 35% of fires are started in the bedroom, followed by the living-room (16%), bathroom (14%) and kitchen (11%).

After forgetting a candle burning in my own home, thankfully without incident, I was horrified to think about what could have happened and dread the thought of my dad responding to a fire alarm to his daughter and grandson’s house. The risk of burning candles was too great for me and I decided to follow the example of my dad and ban candles completely from my home.

Like a super hero to the rescue, Candleflameless wax scented candles Impressions has a solution for my candle deprived home. Since 2003, this company has been creating high quality, flameless (battery-operated) candles. I was impressed that the candles look and feel just like regular candles and are actually made of real scented wax. Mmmm – Vanilla!

Wax-on, Wax-Off isn’t just for the karate kid anymore. The set of 3-pillar candles I received also came complete with a handy little remote and a 5 or 10 hour timer.  Even though I don’t have to worry about the fire hazard aspect anymore, I can now save myself from having to buy batteries in bulk by simply setting the appropriate timer.

I have used these candles nearly every evening since I received them. I love the soft glow and flicker of a real candle that they generate and the calming mood they produce in any room. I also love that I can place them anywhere in the house (the window, the bathroom, next to my bed, on my front porch) and not have to worry about the flame igniting nearby furniture or fabric.

  • LOVE candles, but have put them on hold with so many little ones running around the house. Would love to be able to get these so we can have the best of both worlds again 🙂

  • It would be nice to win because I love adding light without having flames. I can put them anywhere and not worry about the pets getting too curious.

  • Everything appears softer by candlelight and looks better, too. I love the ambiance created by the flickering flame of candlelight. My dad was a fireman and said to not leave the room if candles were lit. So having flameless ones is very safe.
