“Beeting” My Expectations

Beet PowderBy Tara Richter…

If you would have told me a few weeks ago that beet juice would be my new favorite morning beverage, I would have called you crazy. Drinking beets? Seriously? Interestingly though I wake up each morning craving the unique and refreshing taste of ice cold beet juice from PINES Beet Juice Powder.

I was converted from skeptic to believer the first time I tried my free sample of the bright red beet juice provided to me from PINES The Wheat Grass People©. Grabbing an ice-filled glass, I added the powder and was mentally preparing for an off color taste. Off color couldn’t be further from the truth! As I brought the crimson colored liquid to my lips, preparing for something like borscht, I was instead met with a crisp, bright, vibrant, and slightly sweet taste. “Wow! That’s actually really good” I said out loud – surprised at my own reaction.

PINES, the original Wheatgrass Company, began its research in 1931 and have been providing its product since1976. In addition to their Wheatgrass Powder, PINES also provides a Barley Grass Powder, and more recently Beet Juice Powder. This company prides itself on its superior quality in its products and strives to produce the most nutrient-dense formulas available. This is evident from their carefully monitored growing conditions of the ingredients as well as ensuring the best possible packaging to maintain the quality of their product. I was intrigued to learn that plastics are a poor choice for packaging pigmented foods since the plastic absorbs the food, and likewise the food absorbs the plastic. This is why PINES products are instead packaged in a dark-coloured glass, and undergo processing to remove oxygen from the bottle in order to maintain its freshness and nutrient density.

While it is great on its own, I am eager to try PINES Beet Juice Powder in varying combinations. From protein shakes, to yogurt & ice cream, or even in combination with other juices like carrot, mango, or the equally red and refreshing juice of a pomegranate. The possibilities are endless and lucky for me – I’m getting a full serving of veggies every time I drink a glass!

Disclosure: I was sent products to review at no cost, specifically for review purposes.
