I love Walmart’s Frugal Heroes Challenges!
What is it? The Walmart Frugal Heroes Challenge is an opportunity for Canadian shoppers to participate nationwide, and challenge themselves to make the most of their dollar by shopping the lowest prices and saving. There’s one day that’s an official Frugal Heroes Challenge day (August 22nd was the last one) but of course, we all know that shopping at Walmart anytime makes you a frugal hero!
My challenge was to give my child’s room an update for $100. You certainly can’t do a full-fledged room makeover for $100 but if you have the basics (furniture, paint, etc.) already, it’s just a matter of using some accessories to decorate and change the look of a room.
The timing was perfect because we were in the middle of a bedroom transition in our house. Up until this summer, my son and daughter shared a bedroom – something that we knew wasn’t a long-term plan. Now that my son is 9 and my daughter is almost 6, it was time. And, my 2 year old was ready to move into her own bed and out of ours!
Previously, the bedroom was very monotone with some Super Mario graphics on the walls. After we removed those, I added a valance to match the bedspread and make the room more feminine but it was really getting me nowhere.
Both my girls love princesses so it was easy to decide what our theme should be. Fortunately for me, Walmart now has Cinderella themed bedding! Unfortunately for me, they had everything I wanted but the main piece – a Cinderella Comforter! I was able to order it online the same night I searched for it in store, and it was here about a week later (hooray!) Then it was just a matter of adding all the other accessories to transform the room from a plain space to a bedroom fit for not one but two princesses!
Accessories involved in this princess transformation:
Cinderella “Night Sparkles” twin/full Comforter With Dress ($49.94) – The comforter is reversible and absolutely adorable. I took the attached Cinderella dress off after taking the photo, the girls prefer it on them rather than the bed!
Cinderella “Night Sparkles” Panels ($25.94) – I think these do a lot more to dress the window than the previous valance did!
Disney Princess Peel and Stick Wall Decals ($15.94) – These are great because you can apply them anywhere, create your own scenes, and re-stick if you haven’t placed them just right.
Disney Princess Peel and Stick Wall Border ($12.54) – Peel and stick wall borders are easy to apply and give the room a nice finish. Measure first to ensure you buy enough!
My total was $104.36!
Thanks to Walmart for this awesome opportunity! My princesses most humbly send their appreciation as well. 😉
This looks very girly. Love the colours. You made great choices when picking these.
Thank you!
I love the pre-mixed recycled loop paint from Wal-Mart. I’ve done a few rooms with it and it’s very durable. And at $13 a gallon, if you don’t like the color, it’s cheap to change.
Looks great! The comforter looks nice and I love the wall stickers! I also love your built-in bookshelf! 🙂
I love the wall decals and borders- i love that you can change them as our children change their minds 🙂
I love the room! My daughter loves cinderella too and would love the comforter for her room!
Love the peel-and-stick decals! So cute! Will have to check them out the next time I go shopping. 🙂

It turned out so cute! Gotta love Walmart!
It’s amazing how far a $100 can go. Going with the darker colour really pops the room
Must… resist.. urge to post long post about the ‘true cost’ of shopping at walmart.
Two very lucky princesses!! I love the Wall Decals and Border…I gave my nephew a Disney set for his little princess. It came with all sorts of stick on wall items. These are perfect for decorating children’s rooms through the years.
What a fun theme!! The comfortable is lovely and the fact that it ocmes with a detachable, wearable princess skirt is ADORABLE!
