My girls (5 and 2) love having their nails painted. Making this even more ahhh-dorable is that their daddy is the one who is tasked with this job! I have no patience for wiggly hands and smeared polish and this gives the girls some one-on-one time with dad while he paints their nails. I love watching it, and will hold onto those memories for years to come – when they’re painting their own nails as teenagers and the idea of dad doing it is silly.
I want to make sure I’m using non-toxic nail polish, of course, and while many adult brands are promoting that they contain no DBP, Toluene, or Formaldehyde, they are still not delicate enough for children’s thin nails. I’d rather use something designed just for kids, when I can find it. I’m not too concerned about how long it lasts because I know my girls are rough and tumble kids and a manicure won’t last regardless!
My two year old is a nail-biter. No one else in our family has this habit so I’m not sure why she does it, but it gives me one more reason to look for a nail polish that is chemical free (for the amount that kids put their fingers in their mouths, this is of concern even if you don’t have a nail-biter like I do!)

When painting the girl’s nails on our couch, I don’t have to worry if they inadvertently swipe their just-polished hands on the leather couch, it washes off! And, when my 2-year old got into a bottle of this polish and literally painted her legs and the carpet on my stairs – no big deal! <– Those that know my daughter know this kind of behavior is an everyday thing for her, we’re so used to it it doesn’t even phase us anymore.
The polish goes on wonderfully and looks adorable on their little fingers and toes. It washes off throughout the day with hand washing and in the bath in the evening but that’s OK. It just means that the next day they get another color to choose from. There’s actually a Snails Breathe Easy top coat that you can apply to make the polish last longer if you want it to as well.
Psst…I also love that they have nail polish for pregnant moms! True story, I didn’t wear nail polish the 2 years we were trying-to-conceive our first and for the 9 months of pregnancy when we finally did. So I went nearly 3 years without any nail polish on my hands or feet!

I recently let my 5 year old paint her own nails while I was putting my baby down for a nap. Why did I think that was a good idea, you ask? Well she is actually pretty good at doing her own toe nails most of the time. Apparently doing her own finger nails is a little tougher. It’s a good thing she put a napkin down under her fingers but there was still more nail polish on her hands than I could get off.
And that is why I’d love some washable nail polish!
