Earth Day Boutique at DK Canada

love-the-earthWe should teach our children to celebrate the earth and encourage interest in earth sciences all year round, but of course April and Earth Day being April 22nd makes it ever more so popular!

To support Earth Day, and learning all year round, DK Canada has created a boutique on their site called DK Earthly Pleasures!  Everyone in the family can find something in the boutique and for a short time only, all the books in the Earthly Pleasures boutiques are 30% off.

I browsed the selection and while I found a few titles that interested me, the real science nut in the family is my son (almost 9).

In fact, his nickname at school is Mr.Scientific and his third grade teacher is continually kept on her toes with the questions he asks her.

Bringing together the best of the DK Guides series, Everything on Earth is an absorbing survey of our planet and its wildlife, with an emphasis on the extreme-from hurricanes to coral reefs, glaciers to crocodiles. Providing just enough detail to fascinate children without confusing or overloading them, Everything on Earth supplies a solid grounding in its subject, picks out the most awe-inspiring details, and inspires readers to explore further.

Where are the world’s tallest buildings? Where are earthquakes most likely to occur? Where can you find animals that glow? Showcasing the most fascinating places on the planet, Where on Earth? is a collection of more than 75 3-D maps that show not only where everything is, but also why it’s there.

Divided into six chapters: Geography, Nature, People, History, Arts & Entertainment, and Science & Technology, Where on Earth? brings an instant understanding to a wealth of subjects, stimulating interest in the world around us and drawing young readers into the topic. From physical geography, habitats of big cats, the Seven Wonders of the World, Olympic cities, shipwreck sites, and more, every map contains fact panels that provide additional information and useful statistics, while focus features pull out and explain the most interesting facets for an even richer experience.

Elijah called Where on Earth? the “best book I’ve ever had, mom” which surprised me. Not because I don’t think this book is great, but because he’d make such a statement just days after getting the book. He’s brought it to me countless times in the past week or so to point out different maps and information – or just quipped a random fact at the dinner table. Actually, the random facts at the dinner table is nothing new in our house but the book is supporting his thirst for new knowledge in science and our planet (I prefer these facts to random Sponge Bob quotes, for example!)

Both books are currently on sale in the Earth Day Boutique at DK Canada for $15.39 each with the 30% off discount. Both books are appropriate for ages 7-12.

DK Canada offers free shipping on orders over $50, so be sure to check out all the other sections of the site when picking up these two titles this month.
