In Honor of Valentine’s Day: My 5 Favorite 90’s TV Couples

Tell me that looking back at these 90’s TV couples doesn’t make you nostalgic!  These couples are timeless don’t you think?

Angela Chase and Jordan CatalanoCata

Angela Chase (Claire Danes) and Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto) were teenagers in love angst on My So Called Life in the 90’s.  Angela, awkward and oh-so-grunge loved Jordan both near and far, and Jordan was so mysterious and dark.  He didn’t know what he wanted but we all knew it was Angela.

Ross and Racheal

Ross and Rachel’s relationship carried us through the 90’s and into the new millennium.  It’s funny, I started watching Friends when I was 20 and now watching it as a thirty-something in reruns (it seems like you can always find an episode of Friends on during the weekend!) I totally get the humor that much more.  Even after all the drama of “we were on a break!” they still ended up together in the end with baby Emma in tow.  The earlier episodes of the 90’s had a better storyline for me, but still – Ross and Rachel made Friends even better because of their chemistry.

The-Wonder-Years

Just looking at this picture brings me back to my 11 year old self!  The Wonder Years debuted in 1988 (yup, when I was 11!) and carried through until 1993 so I’m counting it as a 90’s series.  Kevin and Winnie were the epitome of awkward first love.  I’m sure watching it now would be quite embarrassing but at the time – the show got it bang-on.  That was what first love felt like, whether it happened in the 60’s or 90’s.

Joey and Pacey

Joey and Pacey.  Nothing defines the 90’s like the soundtrack to Dawson’s Creek, and many of those great songs were the background for the friendship-turned-romance of Joey and Pacey.  I always rooted for Pacey, the underdog, watching his best friend Dawson with Joey the girl he ultimately wanted for himself.  Oh the agony!

Miranda and Steve

While Carrie and Big certainly got more attention and screen time on Sex and the City, Miranda and Steve were my favorite couple.  SATC had a run from 1998-2004 but I’m going to call this a 90’s TV show because, well, I can!  The chemistry between the laid back Steve and high strung Miranda was electric. We all rooted for Steve and wanted to thump Miranda on the head for not seeing that he was the man for her.
