I’m a Member of the Canadian Tire Home Crew!

I was recently invited to be a member of The Canadian Tire Home Crew and partake in some challenges within my own home, using products from Canadian Tire!  When I get an email like this, it’s not just me that gets excited –  my husband was really eager to see what Canadian Tire had in store (literally too, ha!) for our household.

The Kitchen Crew is our select group of food bloggers who are diverse in perspective but are ultimately teachers and lifelong students of the kitchen. They create their own recipes, document their adventures with amazing photography, and on top of everything else, still find the time to follow and share their passion with their readers.

The Home Crew members are our ideal, everyday doer. Their stories about ways to turn your house into a home are motivational, and their tips on how to make it happen are simply invaluable. Our Home Crew members all share in a common passion for striving toward having the best home they could possibly have

Together, the Kitchen Crew and Home Crew members will be bringing readers the results of their missions.

A few weeks ago, I received a package in the mail with a House & Home product from Canadian Tire inside, and 2 missions outlined as well.  It sort of felt like I was one of Charlie’s Angels getting my mission like that, but my husband quickly brought me back to reality and reminded me that wasn’t the case (boo.)

I received the Shark Portable Steam Cleaner (Reg. $99.99 at Canadian Tire) to use on my missions.

  • This portable steam cleaner’s patented Steam Pocket technology allows you to clean, sanitize and deodorize in one step
  • Interchangeable quick-release hand tools are specifically designed to clean flat surfaces in addition to those hard-to-reach and tight spaces that traditional cleaning methods miss
  • Weighing only 3 lbs and with over 10 accessory extensions, you have a lightweight, versatile steam system to clean, sanitize and deodorize multiple surfaces and areas
  • This portable steam cleaner can be used on all sealed hard surfaces to clean and sanitize without the use of harsh chemicals
  • 20′ (6 m) power cord
  • Super-heated steam cleans and sanitizes, leaving surfaces virtually dry

My first mission?  The kitchen!  I had to find 3 kitchen areas (just 3, I had many!) that could benefit from the use of steam cleaning.  It didn’t take long to narrow it down to the areas that needed the most attention.

My kitchen sink is always a pain to keep sparkling.  I know websites state that we should clean our sinks every night so we can go to bed satisfied but I just can’t do it.  After cleaning up dinner, finishing home work and playtime and getting the kids off to bed, the kitchen sink isn’t a high priority.  And so, gunk can build up in the little crevices around the taps and it becomes difficult to remove.

The microwave, of course, is used quite often in our busy household and gets dirty in no time.  I’ve read tips about using lemon juice and hot water to essentially steam away the gunk, but when I think of this idea, I don’t have lemons handy (they are too tasty in caesars, what can I say?)

And finally, under the kitchen sink – ugh.  When’s the last time you pulled everything out from under the sink to clean it?  Yeah, me too.  After removing all the contents, it looked pretty gross.  Our kitchen garbage can is kept under there, so the things that may accidentally fall out and spill into the cupboard are pretty yucky.

All three areas could benefit from a steam cleaning – and my husband and I were eager to see how the Shark Portable Steam Cleaner from Canadian Tire would tackle these jobs.  The results?  You’ll have to stay tuned for that in a few days!
