T-fal Filtra Pro Deep Fryer

Do you own a deep fryer? Up until now I have never owned one. Recently, I was sent a Filtra Pro Deep Fryer courtesy of T-fal to review. I was really excited to try one out. It’s one of those things my husband and I have talked about getting but just never purchased (so many other things that end up on the list too take priority it seems). I think that’s why deep fryers make great gifts (many people get them as wedding gifts).

The T-fal Filtra Pro Deep Fryer has a patented filtering system for straining oil in one easy step – helping to eliminate crumbs and food residue from the oil so you can use it again. I read that crumbs and food residue can really make the oil gross in deep fryers so this is a great feature. This deep fryer also has a fully programmable thermostat and timer, all things to help you in making delicious home fried foods.

We tried the Filtra Pro Deep Fryer for the first time last week. I made home-made fries (we could have used frozen fries, but fresh home-made are so much better!) and then I looked up a quick recipe online for deep fried mushrooms. The enclosed booklet has cooking information in it, which we followed (apparently different items deep fry best at different temperatures, who knew?) The fries turned out great – the traditional French method of making french fries (I don’t make this stuff up, there really is a French method) involves frying the batch at 2 different temperatures to get the right crispness, which worked. The deep fried mushrooms were delicious and so much better than pub-style (which usually taste like old grease!)

Deep fryers always seem to end up on wedding registries but they also make a good Christmas gift if your family has never used one before. All things in moderation, of course, but if you can come up with a some favorite recipes at home, you can save money you’d otherwise spend dining out.
