Having recently experienced first hand how intense the sun can be in Mexico, I know that when (it’s inevitable now, I have to take the kids to Mexico) we go on a vacation there they will most definitely have to have UV protective clothing on. Based on my sunburned thighs, I don’t want my kids to experience that.
Traveling or not, even the Canadian summer sun can leave it’s mark on children’s skin very quickly if we’re not paying attention. I’m pretty vigilant about making sure the kids wear sunscreen but I’m not perfect.
I’m a busy mom with a million things on the go (which one of us isn’t?) so the kids could go longer than they should without reapplying sunscreen.
On days when the kids are in and out of the house and it’s a busy environment, putting UV clothing on the kids makes my life a little easier. With 50+ UPF certified fabric, I know I’ve got them, literally, covered!
The kids UV swim shirts at UV Skins are of course made to be worn in the water, but they are also great for play time as well. Our sandbox is a big hit (we finally got sand for it again a few weeks ago) and Nevaeh spends a lot of time in there. I positioned it so that it would be in the shade for the afternoons but she’s in there first thing in the morning too!
UV Skinz sent us one of their UV Combo’s – a short sleeve UV Swim Shirt and UV Swim Shorts, in the Pink Flower design. Since it doesn’t look like a swimsuit, it’s easy for me to put it on Nevaeh as a shirt without being begged to go to the pool (“pleeeeeease mama!”) and I don’t have to wear both pieces together either (the shorts, in fact, are great for other outdoor activities where water may come into play, without having to put her in a swimsuit). When in pools, it’s good to know that these pieces are chlorine-resistant too!
The little shorts, which she is not wearing in this photo, are lined so that you can wear them as a bathing suit bottom but they don’t look like bottoms which I like. I wondered if the shirt (since it has a higher neckline) would be uncomfortably warm for her outside but she doesn’t notice a thing. She quite likes the shirt and it’s constantly in the wash (if you saw her at the end of an afternoon in the sandbox there would be no question of why!)
UV Skinz also sent me something to wear, something new for me that I’ve never worn in the summer before. A hat. Yes, I’m one of those people that would never plop on a ballcap, and because of this I end up with a sunburned scalp quite often! Going to Mexico, I knew I’d need to protect my noggin’ and the Maui Sun Hat from UV Skinz was perfect!
With 50+ SPF protection (blocking out 98% of the sun’s harmful rays) and a fashionable design, I had no issues wearing a hat while on our excusion to Xcaret, south of Cancun.
I thought my head would be sweaty in a hat but the material is quite breathable (the only thing I had to get used to, since I never wear hats, was bonking into things not realizing how close I was…sad isn’t it?)
Sorry about that, Amanda.
