LEGO

How many of you had a very LEGO Christmas in your household? Having a 5 year old LEGO fanatic, it was definitely the theme for my son this year. Items he received included a LEGO LED Key Light, LEGO Creator 3 in 1 Stegasaurus, Bionicle, and Power Miners.

Santa even brought him a LEGO Track Turbo RC which was a huge hit. Yes, it was a LEGO Christmas!

The great thing about LEGO, of course, is that the possibilities are endless. My son really likes having step by step instructions on how to build the specific items the set is designated to become. Within the past 2 months or so, he has finally started building his own creations and he’s always eager to share what he has built with us.

I think LEGO is super for stimulating his (very) active noggin’ and giving him a creative outlet. His little sister is 2 and just starting to understand the fun of building – although her excitement comes from taking the creations apart (cue in screaming and crying from big brother). I was super-excited when LEGO contacted me to see if we’d be interested in checking out 3 My First LEGO Building Sets.

Of the 3 we received, my son freaked over the LEGO Pirate Building Set complete with a treasure chest, ship, pirate and shark. There are 150 pieces total in this set. I liked that he could easily take this apart and rebuild it several times over (it’s just his thing), and he was happy to add his other “LEGO guys” as he calls them to the adventure.

The second set we received is the LEGO Castle Building Set, which my daughter was all over (castle = princess of course). This set was really fun because of the little details like the drawbridge on the castle itself and of course the catapult that tosses LEGO bricks. This set had 137 pieces total. We combined this set with the Pirate Building Set for a land and sea adventure!

The third set we received is one that we already
had, the LEGO Fire Fighter Building Set (117 pieces). It was the perfect gift to for my son to take with him to his best buddy’s house for a play date just before Christmas. The boys had fun building it together and playing with the truck and ladder, driving it in and out of the fire station.

Retailing for about $12.00 in stores and online (some places have these sets on sale for $9.99 right now), these are the perfect item to give as a gift at any time of the year, or have on hand for surprise visits. Relatives of mine, with a newborn, happened to have one of these sets among their “toys for visitors” box, which of course made my son the perfect little house guest that day (until it was time to leave it, gah!) Best for ages 4-7 in general. Thanks to the generosity of my friends at LEGO, I have 2 prize packs to give away! 2 winners are each going to win all 3 of the My First LEGO Building Sets I got to review! To enter, visit LEGO and leave me a comment here telling me which LEGO theme is a favorite in your household (or that of a special little one).
