BooJee Beads (closed)

The women behind BooJee Beads have a mission: to free women everywhere from the fashion disaster that results from having to wear an ID to work. I say, march on BooJee Beads against this unfortunate tragedy that happens to many of us! Have you been there?

After my son was born and my maternity leave (1 year here in Canada, yay!) was over, I switched jobs within the health region I worked for and went from an office-attire Payroll Clerk to a scrubs and ID wearing Unit Clerk on two nursing units in the evenings while my husband worked during the day.

While I loved the no nonsense appeal of wearing scrubs to work, I still wanted to display my individuality, somehow. I searched for a lanyard to clip my ID onto and the best that I could find was a blank shoelace style lanyard with green frogs on it. Yep. Frogs. I don’t even like frogs!

Had I known about how fabulous BooJee Beads were back then, I would have been all over them! They were created by pediatric nurse Lisa Harrington who no doubt had the same frogs-or-duckies choice that I did and didn’t want to suffer any longer. Joined by her sister in law Kimberly Martinez, the two entrepreneurs created BooJee Beads. Now, the company can be found in over 3000 retail gift shops worldwide, and I’m bringing it to you all here on Feisty Frugal and Fabulous!

Their line now includes not only Beaded Lanyards, but Badge Reel Jewellery, ID Badge Clips, Key Covers and Eyeglass Holders.

If you are not in a career where you wear ID, I’m certain that you know someone who is. Perhaps she is a sister in law or mother in law that has been notoriously hard to buy for; or a best friend that you would like to surprise with something she can truly use.

When I saw this Lanyard with a school bus on it, I immediately thought of what a great idea this would be for teachers or coaches. An ID pocket doesn’t have to be the only thing on the end of a Lanyard like this, a coach’s whistle would also work. BooJee Beads also has an accessories area on the site where you can buy extra ID pockets, key rings, and other items to make your BooJee Beads even more versatile.

It’s important to note that the Beaded Lanyards and other necklace-style ID holders are all safe – they come with a magnetic breakaway clasp.

The BooJee Beads site is so well organized that it takes no time at all to find what you are looking for. You can search for a Beaded Lanyard or ID Badge Clip by style and there are several in each category to choose from. For those who want to give back, the A Mother’s Promise Beaded Lanyards are handcrafted in Guatemala and are fair trade products, enabling the purchase of food, clothing and school tuition for the children in the area.

In the Holiday category, I found this Lucky Shamrock design. I think this one is especially fitting when you read what BooJee Beads has for you, my readers!
