Little Riding Hoods – Review & Giveaway (closed)

The inspiration behind Little Riding Hoods came from Melanie Martin’s desire to keep her little one warm, without the cumbersome bulk of a jacket! I have this issue in the winter here all the time. It’s so bitterly cold at times that we need to have a jacket on Nevaeh at least to get to and from the car but once we’re in the car, her bulky jacket is way too warm not to mention unsafe. Yes, unsafe!

Jen Ellis, a mother and certified Child Passenger Safety Technician from Meridian, Idaho, makes a point each winter to educate parents in online forums about winter coats and car seat safety. “It is unsafe to put a thick coat, snowsuit, or blanket on under the harness of a car seat,” Ellis says. “In a crash the coat would compress, making the straps too loose and possibly allowing the child to be ejected from the seat.” So what is a mother to do?

Recommendations include running the car to ensure it is warm enough for the child and putting them in the car seat without a coat, then putting a blanket on top (fine for some, but when it’s -40 Celsius here, a car takes forever to warm up). Another recommendation is to take the child’s coat off once they are sitting in the car seat, then buckling them in, then putting the jacket on the child’s arms backwards. Again, fine for some but when it’s -40 I need to get my kids into the car as quickly as possible, no time to fiddle around with taking a coat off.

A great solution I found is Little Riding Hoods! These adorable poncho-style coats look and feel luxurious. It’s surprising to note they are 100% polyester which means they can be washed with ease, yet they feel like expensive premium fabric.

Easy to put on, easy to take off, these beautiful pieces are perfect for the car seat. A child is able to keep warm (it’s like wearing a cozy soft blanket) while still being safe in the car seat. Even if a parent decides to take the Little Riding Hood off before putting the child in the car seat, it comes off so quickly there is no concern about standing outside in the bitter cold while waiting for a child to pullllllll their arms from a coat.

Nevaeh received the Princess Pink Little Riding Hood to review and I literally gasped when I opened the box. The pictures on the site do not adequately demonstrate how beautiful they really are! Super soft, with beautiful detailed edging, there was no way I could wait for Nevaeh to try this on! I picked a size 2T knowing that this would allow her to get the most wear out of it, this winter and spring, and next fall and winter too!

I am a frugal mama, and was unsure about the price of a Little Red Riding Hood. When I looked at all the pros of having it though, it made perfect sense as a good investment. No other coat that I have for Nevaeh will last me until next winter for size. No other coat will give me the ease of transporting her from the house to the carseat, and strapping her in knowing she is safe and snug. That alone is enough to convince me. When you add in how adorable Little Riding Hoods are, well case closed! When Nevaeh finally does grow out of her Princess Pink Little Riding Hood, I will be looking for another one I predict!

Wish that you could have a Little Riding Hood for moms too? Well, the next best thing on Little Riding Hoods is their Wolf Tales Scarves (sensing a theme here?) which are made with the same 100% polyester (washable!!) material. Measuring at 68″ in length, Wolf Tales are not a tiny little accessory to be added to your ensemble, they make the ensemble!!

I mean, really, how cute is this mother-daughter style photo of matching Little Riding Hood and Wolf Tale? And yes, before you ask, I do indeed covet a Wolf Tale in the same fabric as Nevaeh’s Little Riding Hood and although my birthday just passed you’re welcome to share the love with me anytime (hubby are you reading this too?)

Little Riding Hoods would love to jazz up your wardrobe and is offering 1 reader the opportunity to own their very own Wolf Tail in the design of their choice! To enter, simply go to Little Riding Hoods and take a look around. Come back here and comment telling me what your favorite design is in either the Little Riding Hoods or the Wolf Tails.
