The Sounds of Spring

Across Canada coast to coast (OK, maybe not you on Vancouver Island) people have been grumbling about the crap-tastic April we’ve experienced to start the month. Typically we start to see grass starting to grow and little buds on the trees starting to bloom but so far here in SK our trees are still covered with snow and frost. Thankfully it looks like maybe, just maybe, the winter weather is gone for good and spring can finally arrive.

With spring comes the start of decorating our patio – the furniture comes out of the shed and the pillows and cushions get a healthy dose of fabric refresher. Maybe in a month or so I can actually buy some plants and then start planning my garden. I love my backyard and spend countless hours in it during the spring and summer months.

Music is one of my backyard essentials, but not the tinny sound of a radio speaker. For years now we’ve been fans of UE (Ultimate Ears) speakers, and one speaker that every member of my family uses and loves is the UE Boom 2 Waterproof Wireless Speaker. The speaker pumps out incredible sound with deep bass in all directions thanks to its 360-degree design (two 45mm drivers and two 45mm x 80mm passive radiators) which makes it perfect for outdoor activity anywhere! With a 100ft. range and 15-hour battery life, this speaker will keep playing your favourites all day long.

Plus, because it’s waterproof, there’s no worries about your speaker ending all the fun early with a panicked grab near the pool (or sprinklers, or water-balloon fight). Take it from the backyard to the beach – the feel of the speaker gives this mom assurance that it’s anything but fragile – I have no concerns with my girls putting it in their bike basket for a cruise. I’ve even seen pictures of this speaker strapped to mountain bikes for on the go fun – nice!

Users can operate the speaker hands-on (tap the top of the speaker once to play or pause, and twice to skip tracks) or via the companion app on your smartphone to turn it on remotely or activate special features like alarm and tap controls. Other cool features include Block Party which allows 3 people to connect to a single UE Boom 2 and use a variety of music services to share songs through the same speaker. Alternatively, you can use Double Up and amplify the listening experience by connecting 2 UE Boom speakers for end-to-end sound in your backyard or other location.

Look for the UE Boom 2 online at ultimateears.com and at stores like Best Buy, Costco, and Indigo for a suggested retail price of $229.99.
