When I was presented with the opportunity to review a Britax car seat I was stoked. A friend of mine is having her first baby and of course has questions on which items are best for her baby. I told her that, undoubtedly, Britax was the way to go for car seats, even though I didn’t own one at that point myself.
Why the confidence? Britax is known for outstanding quality, for product testing that not only meets stringent standards but goes beyond.
The Britax Advocate CS, when displayed beside other car seats in a store, looks like the mother ship of car seats! It’s huge, but for good reason. Every design feature of the Britax Advocate CS is purposeful.
The Advocate CS features True Side Impact Protection which is really REALLY incredible. Did you know that 1 in 4 crashes occurs from the side, and that 30% of fatalities are from side impact crashes? I thought we were (better) protected with side impact airbags but it turns out they are designed to protect adults more so than tiny children.
True Side Impact Protection utilizes the big car seat shell, which is lined with energy absorbing foam, along with the head restraint. Having a bigger surface area allows for the crash force energy to be diverted away from your child.
Not only that – the Advocate CS has Side Impact Technology.
The large air filled cushions on either side of the car seat not only work to reduce side impact energy by 50% for the child in the seat but get this, it also helps protect other passengers as well!
This really stood out for me, as my 6 year old is in a booster seat in the back seat with his sister.
We have been using the Britax Advocate CS for months now. It was only on our recent 5 hour car trip that, while commenting to my husband how much I liked the safety of the Britax it occurred to me that “Oh my gosh, I didn’t post the review!”
We had been using the product so long, and loving it, that it became a part of our daily lives and I nearly forgot to share it with all of you (forgive me?)
The Advocate CS was easy to install and I love the cushions around Nevaeh’s head, it makes it much easier and comfortable for her to sleep on long road trips!
As large as it is, it doesn’t appear to take up any more room than our old car seat, due in part to the fact that the base of the Advocate is smaller than our old one.
Even the base has a safety feature in its design – it deforms in a crash to absorb crash energy forces!
Yes, the price of a Britax car seat is going to be higher than that of other brands on the market but there’s two things to consider when making a purchase. 1) You simply can not put a price on children’s safety, and Britax has over 70 years of service demonstrating their commitment, and 2) The Advocate CS can be used in infancy all the way to toddler-hood (other scenarios could have you using 3 different car seats in it’s place). For these two reasons, I think the Britax Advocate is a wise purchase and I’ll continue to recommend it to my friends – now with a first hand review!
