Oh Dyson how I love thee! Our household became a fan of Dyson in 2007 after we moved to a house with 4 levels and I knew that my old (bag type) vacuum cleaner wasn’t going to cut it. I hated the burned hair/dust smell that emitted from my bag-style vacuum cleaner and was intrigued by the Dyson commercials I was seeing on TV (aren’t we all?)
My first Dyson model was the DC07 Cyclone (newest version of this vacuum is the DC14). I raved to my friends and family about it and a few of them actually bought their own. The Dyson DC07 is amazing but there was one negative aspect of it for me – it weighs 24 lbs. When I was pregnant I was on light-duties for awhile and wouldn’t dare use it because it honestly was a beast (a lovable one at that but still, a beast). That model has since found a new home where he can run and play freely. When I began seeing commercials for a new, compact, Dyson vacuum cleaner I knew this was perfect for our household. Already being a fan of Dyson, I couldn’t wait to receive the Dyson DC22 Motorhead to review. Weighing in at just shy of 18 lbs and 1/3 smaller than the DC07, I knew this would be a long-term relationship right from the start.
True to Dyson’s promise, this vacuum picks up an incredible amount of ‘yuck’ from your carpet – dirt, dust, hair, food (!!!) and pretty much anything else you didn’t want to believe was embedded in your lovely carpet. I always tell my friends and family who are considering a Dyson, “Vacuum with your regular vacuum first, and then try the Dyson, that will make your decision for you,” and am happy to lend mine out so they can see for themselves what sets Dyson apart from the others. The Dyson DC22 Motorhead vacuum is full of pros for me:
~ Lightweight, easy to carry up and down the stairs and the Turbine Head is easy to push
~ Cleans like a Dyson promises, leaving nothing behind
~ Turbine Head is easy to get under beds and furniture which wasn’t possible with my DC22
~ Stair tool is easy to switch off and use, on board tools are always a bonus
~ Smaller canister size isn’t a problem
The only, and this is minor, con I came up with in using this vacuum is that the cord is ‘only’ 16.57 ft long – the Dyson DC22 spoils its users with an incredible 37 ft cord so I miss that.
The price – let’s discuss, shall we? The Dyson DC22 Motorhead vacuum is listed on Dyson.ca at $749.99 CDN but may be found at a lesser price in stores. That’s a lot to spend on a vacuum, no doubt about it. When I was debating on purchasing the Dyson DC07 (around $500 at the time) what made all the difference for me was a) reading online testimonials from customers who loved Dyson and swore it was one of the best purchases they’d made and b) Dyson’s incredible 5 year warranty. I knew that should something go wrong with my vacuum in workmanship or material defects, Dyson would stand behind their product.
Of course Dyson is a great gift for yourself! Definitely put this on your Christmas list this year if you have a generous family member who might want to spoil you. Really, though, I saw my first Dyson as an investment and have never looked back. Dyson truly is worth the price tag.
Of course Dyson is part of the holiday cheer this season and would like to offer Feisty Frugal & Fabulous readers another Dyson model that is popular this holiday season. I would love to get my hands on this model for my car!
The Dyson DC16 Handheld gives you all the power and technology of a Dyson in a smaller, handheld model. Knowing Dyson’s performance, I know this vacuum would do an amazing job on a car interior (other uses are small jobs around the house, shop, etc.) Listed at $179.99 at Dyson.ca, this may not fit in a stocking but it sure would make me happy Christmas morning!
